June 28. At Golf. After the very severe storm of snow, hail, and rain which fell during Saturday and Sunday, a few succeeding mornings of sunshine were hailed with delight, especially tempting the golfers on to the links. Mrs. Glasgow won the bogey competition (ladies), played on Friday’, and Mr. Vernon Crawshaw the men’s.

Assembly. The first of a series of assemblies, to be held monthly, took place at the Forseters’ Hall. The committee consisted Of Misses Anderson, James. Wake, and Bayly. The night was extremely eold, so it was particularly conducive to dancing. The floor and music were good and the supper excellent. Among those present were: Mcsdames Wake, Crawshaw, Young, Curtis (chaperons), Lonergan, Malone, Wilson, Tyrer, Hudson, Misses Hine, Orbell, Wake (2), Bayly (2), Curtis, James (2), O’Brien, Seagle, Fussell, Anderson, llolmes (Wellington), Mackay, Messrs. Malone, Wake, Young (2), Crawshaw, James (2), McAllister, Croker, Hall, Vaughan, Anderson, Lonergan. Bridge. Mrs. Budge gave a small I,ridge party oh Tuesday evening. Included were: Mesdames Mclntosh, Dymock (Wellington), Uniacke, Robinson, Glasgow, Stubbs, Chinchin, Budd. Turton. Mrs. E. C. Robinson entertained a few friends at bridge on Wednesday evening. The Bridge Club met at Mrs. Stubbs* on Friday evening. Mrs. Crawshaw gave a small luncheon party on Thursday. Girls' Society. With a hope of forming a branch of tire Giris’ Friendly Society, Miss Wilson, secretary of the New Plymouth branch, addressed a most enthusiastic meeting at the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening, with the result that quite a number of candidates desired to be enrolled as members. Mrs. C. 11. Penn and Misses O’Leary wore appointed joint secretaries. Social. A very enjoyable social was giuM the members of St. Andrew's Tennis Club on Wednesday. A musical programme was contributed to by Miss M. Mackay, Messrs. Anderson, Wilson, Douglas, Hale, Templar, and Patriee, ami most delectable refreshments partaken of. The chief interest of the evening was centred in the presentation of a trophy to Miss E. Brayshaw as champion lady player of the el nb. Personal. Mr. J. B. Hine, M.P., Airs. Hine and family were, passengers by the mail train for Wellington on Tuesday. Mrs. Mclntosh and Mrs. Dymock (Wellington) are the guests of Mrs. Budge. Miss Bayly (New Plymouth) is visiting Mrs. Wake.
