The Advances to Settlers Act was the most beneficial Act ever passed in New, Zealand, but in the administration of it the people were humbugged. Some had received an intimation to put their application through their member. Why should they have to do this? It was simply to make them believe that they had received a favour from the member, and were under a great obligation to him. He was opposed to any member of Parliament being employed or receiving State money or anything in connection therewith. — Mr. Byron Brou'n, Otaki.
