NEW ZEALANDERS ABROAD.

LONDON, October 20. The Rev. A. F. Smith, late Vicar of Northcote (Auckland), arrived with his wife and children by the Ruahine early this month, and has since been paying visits in Devon and Cornwall and Derbyshire. He preached in Sanikiacre Church (his native place) the first Sunday he was there. Mr. Smith has been appointed a lecturer for the S.P.G. in foreign parts. His English engagements up till Christmas take him to Coventry. Lincoln, Ely, and Norwich. Mrs. Smith and her children are remaining in Derbyshire. Mrs. N. McLean, of Ponsonby. arrived in England in April last on a pleasure trip to see the Coronation and visit her native place, also her many relations in England and Scotland. She. has already visited many places in England, and spent some time in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Oban, and the Highlands. Mrs. McLean leaves Southampton on her return to N.Z. on December 25 by the N.D.L. line. Mr. 8. N. Ziman, of Auckland, one of New Zealand’s Rhodes scholars, who has been for some years at Balliol College, Oxford, leaves for India on November 1. He has joined the I.C.S. Mr. F. E. Cory, of Auckland, is spending in Buckingham where, in response to several invitations, he has addressed a number of meetings on the subject of New Zealand. Mr. Cory’s experience is that he is always listened to with great interest, and he finds that the more his audiences hear about the Dominion the more they are anxious to hear. He shortly leaves on his return to New Zealand. Among the gentlemen recently elected members of the Royal Colonial Institute were the following New Zealanders: Mr. Wm. K. Chambers, Mr. Thomas R. Fisher, Mr. Henrv R. Hesketh, and Dr. A. J. Orchard. ‘Mr. H. H Wall, J.P., of Gisliorne, has been appointed an honorary corresponding secretary of the Institute Miss Mabe.l Leys and Miss A. M. Williams, of Auckland;, who left New Zealand last March, and have been, during their holiday, to Scotland, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, and Switzerland, leave on their return journey by the N.D.L. line in ten days’ time. The Rev. W. Wooding and Mrs. Wooding have left for a six months’ visit to Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand, where they will visit the Unitarian churches as representatives of the British and Foreign Unitarian Association. Mr. A. G. Marshall, of New Zealand, has entered Balliol College, Oxford; and Mr. R. E. G. George, also of New Zealand, St. John’s College, Oxford.
