August 13. Break-up Dance. Afrs. Skerman and Alias Dinwiddle held their break up dance in the High School gymnasium on Thursday even-

ing, when a number of parents and friends were present. The children in their pretty party frocks made a very gay scene, whilst four little girls in becoming Quaker dresses and caps looked most demure, and did a Puritan dance very prettily. A rose dance by Miss Dorothy Moore was very graceful. A cachuca by the younger pupils was very pretty, and the senior girls danced a sailor’s horn pipe in great style. At the Theatre. ‘■Jack and the Beanstalk” visited Napier this week. Amongst the audience were: Mrs. George Nelson, Mrs. Russell Duncan, Miss Barnes, Mrs. Arthur Sims (Christchurch). Mrs. Reed, Mrs. Norris, Miss Godfrey, Mrs. Morgan, Mrs. T. 11. Hunter (Otope), Mrs. and Miss Maud, Mrs. J. V. Brown, Miss Brown, Mrs. and Miss Kettle, Mrs. Christie, Mrs. Swan. Miss Baldwin. Mrs. S. Riddell, Mrs. Fred. Von Dadlezon, Miss Thornton. Miss Aplin. Mrs. Sproule, Mrs. A. H. Wilson. Mrs. Nantes, Mrs. Dobbel, Mrs. Price. Miss Ellison. Mrs. and Miss Bernan, Airs, and Miss Smith, Paper Bag Cooking. The first exhibition of paper-bag cooking in Napier was given by Miss Kibblewhite. domestic science mistress, at tho Technical School on Wednesday afternoon. The attendance was very large. Beef tea, biscuits, fowl, and sponge cake were all most successfully turned out. So many people are anxious to learn more about this new method of cooking that a class is likely to be formed. Personal. Mr. and Mrs Barker, Gisborne, arc spending a few days at the Masomo Hotel. Mr. ami Mrs. W. Birch. Marton, have been in Napier for a week. Miss Annie St. Hill is spending a few days in Napier before returning to England. Mrs. Arthur Sims (Christchurch) is visiting her mother. Airs. Todd. Airs. Ogilvie has returned from Wellington. Airs, and the Aliases Duckworth, Ilawera. have come to Napier for a year. Miss Duff is visiting Airs. Wood. Airs. George and Airs. Nimrod Shaw have returned to Puhetapu. Airs, and Alias Hutchingson Rissington are staving at the Ala some Hotel. Airs, and Alias Groome. To Onepu. are spending a few weeks in Napier. Airs. T. H. Hunter, Otope. is visiting Airs. George Nelson. Air. and Airs. Fred. T.vsnar are in Nanier on their way to Gisborne. Afiss Kirke has returned to Christchurch. , , Air.. Mrs., and Aliss Sunderland, Tomoana. are in Napier on a visit.
