NELSON.
April 20. Easter Bowling Tournament. The Bowling Tournament, which is now to be an annual fixture of the Easter holidays at Nelson, was this year a great success. Games were played each day on the Nelson and Maitai Club’s lawns, and the weather on the whole was very good. Teams of players were sent from Blenheim, Westport, Motueka, Takaka, Newtown, Thorndon, Hai-tai-tai, Riverside, Kclburne, and Khandallah. Afternoon tea on Saturday and Easter Monday was given at the Nelson Bowling Green by Mrs. W. W. Squires and Mrs. K. S. Coster, and at the Maitai Club byMrs. Nalder and Mrs. Frost. A Concert.
A crowded audience filled the Theatre Royal on the occasion of Mr. R. F. Foster’s concert, in aid of the children’s ward at the Hospital. Mr. Foster was assisted by Miss Mary Newman of Wellington, and by Mr. T. Houlker. There were several orchestral items, by members of the Harmonic Society, and some enjoyable part-singing by Mr. Foster and the Messrs. lloulker (3). Mr. Vernon Rout played all the accompaniments. Miss Newman, who was recalled each time she sang, wore a beautiful froek of silver tissue veiled with white chiffon, with gold bugle fringe. In the audience were:—Mrs. J. S. Evans, mauve ninon, black satin opera coat; Miss Manoy (Motueka), black velvet: Mrs. Clark, the Misses Clark, white satin frocks; Mrs. C. Y. Fell, blaek silk, pale blue opera coat; Mrs. Houlker, blaek silk; Miss Houlker, Mrs. Lyell, black, white Iwee coat; Mrs. Richmond Fell, white muslin, pink sash; Mrs. F. Richmond, black chiffon, grey coat; Miss I*. Richmond, pretty white frock; Mrs. Macquarie, black gown; Miss Tolnie, pink silk; Mis* Hag-
gitt, Mr*. R. F. Foster, Mr* and Miaa Blackett, Miss Leggatt, Mr* Hayes, Mra. 'Johnston, Mias Gibbs, (Mrs. and ttio Misses Ledger, the Misses Ed wards, Mrs. P. Andrew, Mrs. J. Wood, the Misses Ward. Personal. Mrs. Bett and the Misses Bett (2), who have been the guests of Dr. and Mrs. F. A. Bett, have returned to their home in Christchurch. Dr, ami Mrs. Johnston have returned from their visit to Wellington. Miss Mary Hodson has returned from her stay in the North Island. Mr. Jim Wood (Stoke) and Dr. and Mrs. Andrew have returned from their motor trip to the Pelorus Sounds. Miss Norah Gilkison has returned from the South.
Mr. and Mrs. Stevens, formerly of Nelson, now of Christchurch, are visiting
friends here.
