BLENHEIM.

April 21. Railway Opening. In spite of the wet weather prevailing on Saturday a large number of the pub-

lie were induced to attend the opening of the Seddon-Ward section of the South Island Main -Trunk line. The train from Blenheim and Seddon took out big crowds, while the settlers gathered in full force. The ceremony took place shortly after the arrival of the tram. At the conclusion of the opening ceremony the Hon. R. McKenzie and a large number of representatives of local bodies and public men were .entertained at a banquet at Ward. Rinking.

On Easter Monday quite a number assembled at the Town Hall Skating Rink for the afternoon, where a jolly time was spent. Some of those present were:—Mrs. J. Mowat, Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Adams, Mrs, Strachan, Misses Horton (2), Marsh, Nevill (2), Davis (2), Mowat (2), N. Grace, Morgan, White (Wellington), Clouston (2). Bowling.

A number of our bowlers journeyed to Nelson on Thursday to take part in the annual tournament held there for Easter. Some of those who went were, Messrs. Marsh. C. Mills, Northcroft. Palmer, Whiteford, Flood, Hart, Griffiths.

Personal. Mrs. Claude Mills is visiting friends in Wanganui. Mr. and Mrs. J. Conolly have gone for the Easter holidays to their residence in the Sounds. Mr. and Mrs. B. Clouston are spending the holidays in the Pelorous Sounds. Miss McGowan and Miss Sidey (Wellington) are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Barnett, “Tua Marina.” Miss D. Perrett has gone to Timaru for a holiday. ■Miss Mackay (Wellington) is spending the Easter holidays with Dr. and Mrs. Bennett. Miss Zoe Clouston is spending a few days at “Bank House.” Miss Mitchell, “Dumgree,” is the "nest of Mr. and Mrs. Bell, “Holmdale.”° Mr. G. Paul (Wellington), is the guest °f Dr. and Mrs. Bennett, Maxwell-road. Miss Ross has gone to Wellington for a few days. Mrs. P. Holme has returned from a holiday spent in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. C. Teshemaker-Shute are in town for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson, “Upeot,” are staying at the Criterion Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Dillon, “Leefield,” are in town for a few days. 'Mr. J. Newton, Ashurst, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. R. Bell, “Holmdale.” Miss White (Wellington) has been spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. J. Maclaine.
