- April 21. Tennis Tournament. There were a very large number of entries for the Eastern tennis tournament, held on Cook’s Gardens. Unfortunately, Saturday was a very wet day, and all games had to be postponed. Representatives from the majority of the North Island clubs competed, and some very good and exciting play was witnessed. Amongst those I noticed on the different days were:—Mrs. H. Sarjeant, Airs. Addison, Miss Aloore, Aliss Wilford, Aliss Hartgill (Dannevirke), Aliss Williams (Sydney), Airs. Good, Aliss Wilson (Bulls), Miss N. Wilson (Bulls), Aliss Brettargh, Aliss Cowper (Dannevirke), Aliss Cave, Aliss Christie, Miss Darley, Airs. Hesse, Airs. Izard, Aliss C. Anderson, Miss Butterworth (Christchurch). The New College Chapel. There was a very large number present last Sunday, when the Bishop of Wellington laid the foundation stone of the new college chapel. During the morning Air. Dove received a cable from Kassali, in the hills of India, as fol-lows:-—“Psalm exxii.. verses 7 and B.— (Signed) Three Empsons.” The College Sports. The weather was beautifully fine on Easter Monday, and there were a great many old boys, friends, and parents at the College sports. The day was beautifully fine, but a cold wind was blowing. Amongst those present in the morning I noticed:—Miss Price (Rangitikei), in a navy blue coat and skirt, cream vest, burnt straw hat with black satin ribbons; Aliss Moore, navy serge skirt, white muslin blouse, coarse cream straw hat with black velvet on it; Mrs. Crombie, green tweed costume, cream vest, cream straw hat with pink roses and foliage; Aliss Alunro (Palmerston N.), gpeen check coat and skirt, burnt straw hat with black; Aliss Blundell (Dunedin), long . green Harris tweed coat and skirt, brown fur stole, black hat with cherry coloured flowers; Aliss Al. Lethbridge, navy blue coat and skirt, cream vest, fine black straw with gold cord and tassels; Aliss Dive (Eltliam), white muslin froek with lace and insertion, cream straw hat swathed with rose pink silk; Aliss G. Christie, white linen frock, cream straw hat with Coro-nation-shaded'roses and foliage; Cowper (Dannevirke), brown velvet frock with silk braid in the same tones, toque of brown velvet with silk edging; Aliss D. Brettargh, navy blue coat and skirt, large black straw hat with crimdon roses- and foliage; Airs. Potts, saxe blue frieze coat and skirt, ermine stole and muff, large black hat lined with white straw.

There was a much larger crowd in the afternoon, and it was most difficult to see everyone. Mrs. Dove wore a beautiful gown of the palest grey cloth, with chiffon and touch of gold, large black straw hat with black aigrette; MrS. Godwin, black, with lace, black and white bonnet; Airs. Crombie, navy blue coat and skirt with Oriental and gold revers and collar, cream vest, pretty shot blue straw hat with shaded bird at the side; Mrs. Allen, cream serge coat and skirt, cream vest, large black hat with cherry coloured flowers in the form of a wreath: Airs. j. Strang (Palmerston North), very smart navy blue serge coat, and skirt, the coat was short, and the skirt made very short with kilted pleats, electric blue, velvet toque; Airs Loughnan (Palmerston North) . rose pink frock, with net, large black hat with black and white chiffon ruche; Airs W. Strang (Palmerston),-smart navy blue coat and skirt, becoming toque; Aliss Miles (Wellington), rose pink coat and skirt, with

pleats, black straw hat with touch of pale blue and pink roses; Mrs Abraham (Palmerston N.)’, greenish tweed coat and skirt, large black hat with white roses in the form of a wreath; Mrs Holmes (Palmerston N.), navy blue serge Norfolk coat and skirt, emerald green velvet toque with black aigrette at the side; Mrs Barthorpe (Hunterville), dark tweed coat and skirt, black fur toque; Mrs Wilde (Marton), golden brown silk, with cream net, brown hat with tulle and shadedi brown roses; Airs W. Dunn (Canterbury), coronation blue corded bengaline, coats and skirt, with black silk revers and collar, black hat with flowers; Mrs Price (Rangitikei), navy blue coat and skirt, white feather boa, black straw hat with brim upturned at the side, and a wreath of soft pink roses; Aliss Price (Rangitikei), very pretty pale green Shantung frock, with silk cord in the same tones, black hat with wreath of flowers; Airs Eric Riddiford (Wellington) wore a smart black velvet gown with bands of silk and black silk cord, large black hat with ruche of black tulle; Aliss Blundell (Dimedin), stylish frock of pale green spotted foulard, and band of plain green charmeuse on the hobble skirt, large straw hat with green silk bows; Aliss Alunro (Palmerston N.), smart frock in pale blue, with white furs, becoming straw hat with flowers; Airs Harold Cooper (Palmerston N,) wore a beautiful gown of the palest blue charmeuse, with shaded blue and pale heliotrope band of. embroidery on the skirt, making it slightly hobble, and the same on the bodice, white fur stole, large hat in pale heliotrope with, aigrette; Airs H. Wilson, navy blue coat and skirt, stylish black beaver, ..hat ,with greenish blue birds; Airs Fairburn, pale blue embroidered Shantung, large black hat; Airs 0. Lewis, very smart navy eqat and skirt, with gold thread embroidery on the revers and collar, brown fur toque; Miss Aloore, navy blue coat and skirt, small coarse straw, ihat with wing at the side; Airs A. Izard wore a. most becoming pale electric bine Harris tweed coat and skirt, with Burberry hat to match and quills at the side; Airs H. On Monday evening there were a large number at the Collegiate School, when the sports prizes were presented. Mrs. Dove wore a beautiful cream charmeuse gown, with overskirt of fine lace; Mrs. Bloomfield (Auckland), black charmeuse frock with tunic of black ehiffon, and in her coiffure a twist of deep crimson chiffon; Mrs. Caldwell (Auckland), white satin robe, with wide bands of beautiful laee motifs, the whole was veiled in blaek ehiffon; Mrs. F. Cowper (Dannevirke), grey charmeuse gown, with chiffon and lace; Mrs. O’Rorke beautiful robe of black charmeuse, with ninon and jet; Miss Moore, pale pink satin frock, with cream net and lace, pale blue opera eoat, with Oriental silk trimming; Mrs. Colbeck (Auckland), blaek charmeuse gown, with black chiffon tunic skirt; Miss Hawken, white silk froek, with chiffon, pale blue in her coiffure; Miss Wake (Stratford), dainty white silk gown, with lace; Mrs. Ashcroft wore a pale heliotrope gown; Mrs. Godwin, black silk, with real lace on the bodice, pale blue chiffon scarf; Miss Price, pale blue silk frock, with vest of fine cream tucked net; Miss Spencer, pale pink floral silk gown, with lace, rose pink opera coat; Miss Ashcroft, black silk and net with silver sequins; Mrs. Crombie, blaek, with Liberty green opera coat; Miss Blundell (Dunedin), black charmeuse gown with chiffon and maize shaded ribbon in her coiffure; Miss Munro (Palmerston N.), white satin, with tunic of chiffon, emerald green satin in her hair; Mrs. Cooper (Palmerston N.), white satin robe with ehiffon, flame-coloured chiffon shoulder 'scarf; Mrs. Holmes (Palmerston N.), cream silk and net with emerald green; Mrs. Elder (Wellington) wore a black silk gown, with lace. A Football Match.

There was great excitement on Tuesday morning, when the football match between Ohl Boys and the School was played. A very close game resulted in a win for the Old Boys by 21 points to 20 points scored by the School. Amongst the interested onlookers were: Miss D. Loughnan. of Hamilton, are the guests of Dr. and Mrs. Earle, Wanganui, for Easter. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Riddiford, of Wellington, are the guests of Dr. and Mrs. Wall, in Wanganui.

Mr. and Mrs. Barnard Brown and Miss Linda Barnard Brown, of Wanganui, have returned from their visit to England and the Continent. They were away from New Zealand about four years.
