STRATFORD.
April 21. The Week in Stratford. The Alayoral election, which is to take place next Wednesday, is, of course the topic of conversation, and nothing else can be thought of for the moment. Air. Masters (present Mayor) and Air. Young being the contestants for the seat of honour. The golf links were to have been opened this week, but the ceremony had to be postponed for the present, as the greens are not in good order. Airs. W. Raikes, Pembroke-road, gave a delightful little bridge party on Monday night, for Aliss' Reed (New Plymouth), who was staying with her. - Airs. F. Wake was at home to a few. friends on Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday afternoon Airs. E. C. Robinson received a few friends. An Afternoon Party. On Friday afternoon Airs. Rennell had a monkey competition party, which caused great amusement. Amongst those present were:—Airs. Robinson, wearing a white embroidered muslin, large green hat; Airs. Dillon Carbery, black poplin coat and skirt, black toque; Airs. A. W. Budge, cream serge costume, large leghorn hat with black wings; Airs. Uniaeke, pale pink embroidered voile, black hat; Airs. Johnston, white muslin, black turban; Airs. W. Raikes, blue cloth coat and skirt, large grey straw- hat; Airs. Paget, wearing blue cloth skirt, chiffon blouse, burnt straw hat, with scarf; Airs. Stubbs, grey blue costume,' cdppercoloured passementerie on corsdge, black turban straw hat; Airs. Crawshaw, white embroidered linen; Aliss Crawshaw, white muslin, green hat with wings; Airs. W. Websterr, blue coat and skirt, burnt straw hat. The first prize was won by Airs. Uniacke, and the second by Aliss Crawshaw. Personal. Airs. Sellars (Alasterton), who has been on a visit to her sister, Airs. Hogg (Midhurst) returned home last Tuesday. Airs. A. W. Budge has returned from Wellington. Air. W, Raikes came back from the South on Tuesday evening. Aliss Reed (New Plymouth) has been the guest of Mrs. W. Raikes. Mrs. Biss is spending a short holiday in Wanganui. Air. R. Spence has returned from a short visit to Auckland. Mr. Tyrer has returned after the Easter holidays.
