April 20th. ' Hastings seemed quite deserted thia week. All who could, have gone away for the Easter holidays, so social functions are al postponed for a few weeks.

I noticed a few pretty street toilets: Mrs Brocklehurst looked well in *

cream serge costume, with hat in black and white tones; Mrs C. Johnston looked stylish in white linen frock, large black hat with white wings; Mrs Kiely in grey linen coat and skirt, and black hat looked very nice; Airs De Lisle looked well in a marine blue coat and skirt, black hat; Mrs J. Aliller was wearing a white frock and very becoming cream straw bucket hat, with black silk; Miss Well wood (Paki Paki( stylish white costume and smart black hat; Airs J. Beamish, cigar brown linen costume, black hat; Mrs Barcroft, elegant in dark tailor costume, large black hat wreathed with roses, black satin stole, lined with white satin; Airs Al. Mason, a costume of rustic brown shades, dark green flowing veil; Alias Braithwaite looked nice in white frock, black bucket hat; Miss Hewson (Auckland) looked very stylish in dark rose coat and skirt, black silk revers and cuffs, black and white toque; Airs W. Stead, green costume, large black hat wreathed with roses; Airs Fitzherbert, grey linen, hat swathed with pink Paisley; Airs W. Lindsey, black frock girthed round the foot of skirt with broad band of black charmeuse, black hat; Airs Hurley looked particularly well in a white muslin frock, with lace, mole hat lined with pale blue, blue and silver flowers; Airs Douglas, becoming white frock and cream hat wreathed with pink roses. Personal. Mrs Beilby has gone to Wellington for a short holiday. Airs G. Ebbett has gone to Auckland for a holiday. Miss Hislop has returned from the South. Misses Afason have returned from Napier.
