NAPIER.

March 24. Presentation. A number of people assembled at the Bluff Hill Croquet Club Ground last Saturday to bid farewell to Mrs Smallbone. Mrs McLernon (president), on behalf of the club, presented Mrs Smallbone with a pair of silver vases, and wished her and her family every success and happiness in their new home. Amongst those present were: Mrs and the Misses Smallbone, Mrs McLernon, Mrs Bilton, Miss Bran, Mrs Brabant, Miss Sheath, Miss Dinwiddie, Mrs Pasley, Mrs Chapman, Miss Hall, Mrs Riddel, and many others. The children attending the Bluff Hill Day School presented Miss Smallbone, their late assistant mistress, with a silver hand mirror, hatpin and stud-box. A Concert. Miss Amy Castles gave her farewell concert in the Theatre Royal last night. The audience, though not very large, was most appreciative. During the evening an earthquake shock rather alarmed everyone. Miss Castles, who was singing at the moment, was evidently much upset, but after a few minutes (amidst great applause from the audience) continued her song. A Donee. A very enjoyable little dance was given by the matron and nurses at the Hospital last night. One of the wards had been cleared and prettily decorated with greenery. Although the night was exceptionally hot, dancing was kept up with groat zeal. Personal. Mrs Guthrie-Smith is spending a few days in Napier. Miss Hctley left yesterday on a visit to England. Mr and Mrs Winstone Barron have returned to Napier. Miss Mountfort is visiting Mrs Gascoyne at Hastings. Mr and Mrs G. Morris and family left by the Corinthic for England. Miss Whitaker (Wellington) is Uie guest of Mrs Averil, Bishopscourt. Bishop Williams and Miss Williams •re visiting Auckland.

Mrs Troutbeck and her son leave next month for England. ! Mr and Mrs Fells are on a visit to Napier. Mrs George is visiting Mrs Davidson, Bluff Hill. Mr and Mrs Heald left Napier for a two .years’ visit to JEngland. Miss Wilkie is leaving this week for Scotland. Mr and Miss Hardy have returned from England, and are staying at the Masonic Hotel.
