PALMERSTON NORTH.

March 24. Croquet. A party of croquet players from Wanganui played! a match with a local team on the Sports Ground last Friday, which resulted in a draw. Mrs Patterson, Mrs Stone, ..Miss Burgess, Miss Anderson, Messrs Ritchie, Gordon, Stevenson, amt Bailey were the visitors, and Mrs Tripe, Mrs Mellsop, Mrs Innes, Mrs Mcßae, Messrs Nathan, Daniels, Munro, Cohen and C. E. Waldegrave represented Palmerston. A fortnight previously a team from here journeyed to Wanganui and played a match there, which also resulted in a draw. There is a probability of a third contest to try and decide who are the victors. St. Patrick's Day. There was the usual concert on St. Patrick’s Day, and, like all its predecessors, proved to be a particularly good one. Several of our most prominent singers contributed items.

Tennis. The Misses- Warburton and Dorothy Waldegrave dispensed! afternoon tea at the Linton-street Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon. Miss Warburton wore a white linen frock, and hat swathed with pale pink ninon; the Misses Maud and Mollie Warburton, white frocks and black hats, with blaek silk inchings; Miss Waldegrave, a fawn linen dress braided in the same shade, rose Paisley velvet hat with clusters of rose pink roses; Mrs Moodie, blue linen coat and skirt, hat with black silk bows; Mrs Randolph, black coat and skirt, braided in black, blaek hat with wings; Miss Randolph, grey coat and skirt, braided in grey, large black hat with blaek wings; Mrs McDonald, white linen, hat with black silk trimming; Miss Dundas,white embroidered muslin, hat wjth wreath of roses; Miss Porter, in white, and hat with wreath of small mauve flowers; Miss Mawhinney, white muslin and lace, wide black silk belt, mole coloured hat with black wings; Miss Turner (Auckland), white coat and skirt, hat with brown silk Lows; Mrs Eliot, green striped coat and skirt, black hat with black feathers; Miss Mabel Smith, white linen frock, hat with mauve satin ribbon anil flowers; Mr and Mrs Cecil Adams, Mr and Mrs A. D. Thompson. Miss Wilson, Miss Armstrong. Miss Watson, Miss Helen Porter, and several others. Personal. Mr ami Mrs Turner and the Misses Turner (Auckland) have been staying with Mrs Homan.

Mr and Mrs Sidney Fitzherbert. whe have been in England for some time, have returned, and are staying with Mr C. E. Waldegrave. Mrs Dermer (Feilding) spent a few days this week with her mother, Mrs Porter. Mrs F. E. Watson has returned from

the Foxton Beach.
