.. . ” March 24. Athletic Sports. A large number of spectators assembled in the Park on Wednesday to witness the annual sports. The weather was all one could wish. The horsejumping, as usual, was the chief attraction. In the evening an entertainment was held. The proceeds of both gatherings are to be devoted to the building of swimming baths. Tennis. A team from the Marton Tennis Club motored to Wanganui on Friday to try conclusions with the Wanganui Club, and were badly defeated, Wanganui winning by 94 games. An unusually large muster gathered on the tennis courts on Saturday. Mrs. Howard and Mrs. Williams provided a delicious afternoon tea.

Personal. Mrs. Beckett entertained a few friends at her residence, Wairoma, on Wednesday evening. ' Mrs. Barker (D'annevirke) is the guest of Mrs. Miles “Lindfield.” Miss Barker is staying with Mrs. Crawford. Mr. and Mrs. Wilde have returned from Nelson. Mrs. and Miss Poster (Canterbury) are staying with Mrs. Wood. Mrs. Kitcat has her sister staying with her. Mrs. Ross has gone to Hunterville, and is staying with her daughter, Mrs. Arnold Theed. Mrs. Standford-Cox has taken her children to the seaside. Miss McGregor and Miss Mabel Wallace have accompanied her. Mrs. Nieolls (Wairarapa) is staying ■with Mrs: G. F. Bishop. Mr. and Mrs. Finest Rhodes (Rata) have returned from a year’s trip abroad.
