Hawera, March 24. Garden Party. Last Wednesday afternoon a garden fete was held at Mrs. Good’s residence in aid of the District Nursing Fund. The pretty grounds were the scene of much pleasure, and at times business was very brisk at the different stalls. It is hoped the fund will benefit by about £7O. Great amusement was caused by the menagerie race, the winner being a goat, driven by Mr. Page. A few of those I noticed were: Mrs. Good, black silk frock, black bonnet; Mrs. Foyster, white embroidered muslin, saxe blue hat; Miss Good, white muslin, cream hat; Miss —. Good, heliotrope and white floral muslin; Miss G. Good, white, black hat; Mrs. Nicholas, blapk silk; Mrs. Barton, white embroidered linen coat and skirt, white hat with loops of black ribbon; Mrs. Moore, grey linen coat and skirt, black hat; Mrs. Campbell, white muslin, black hat with red roses; Mrs. Nolan, black gauze over white, black hat with ostrich feather trimming; Mrs. Wallace, white muslin, black hat with blaek . wings; Mrs. Cowern, white linen coat and . skirt, brown hat; Mrs. Fantham, cream linen Princess robe, blaek hat; Mrs. Willis, white, hat with shaded hydrangeas; Mrs. Welsh, green silk crepe frock, trimmed with Oriental embroidery, white hat with shaded roses and green leaves; Mrs. Nalder, green linen coat and skirt, blaek hat; Mrs. Gillies, brown and pink floral muslin, trimmed with brown silk, brown hat; Mrs. Bell, white linen coat and skirt, blaek hat with pink roses; Mrs. Caplen, navy, blue voile, black hat; Mrs. Buckley, blue frock with touches of black, black plumed hat; Mrs. Kimbell, white embroidered muslin coat and skirt, black hat; Mrs. O’Callaghan, blue linen; blue hat with wreath of shaded flower®; Mrs. Bennett, white muslin, cream hat with loops of black ribbon; Mrs. Page, white linen, grey hat with black wings; Miss Reilly, white muslin, champagne and blue hat; Miss C. Reilly, white muslin- Princess robe, blue hat; Miss Nolan, heliotrope linen coat and skirt, black hat; Miss B. Nolan, white linen coat and skirt, grey and pink hat; Miss Coutts, navy blue serge costume, blaek hat with wreath of pink roses; Miss Brett, white linen coat and skirt, white hat wreathed with pink roses; Miss Caplen, green silk frock, cream hat with pink roses and black velvet; Miss E. Caplen, white ih.ualin, cream hat with large green bow. The sweets stall was in charge of Mrs. R. McLean, Misses Glenn (2), Moore (2), and White. They all looked exceedingly well in dainty white muslin frocks, muslin aprons and mob caps with pale blue bows.

Farewell Party. Mrs. Welsh gave a most enjoyable party as a farewell to the Misses Caplen, who leave with their parents on a trip to England early next month. A competition was held, in which questions given had to be answered by the name of a bird. Miss C. Reilly and Miss B. Nolan tied for first place. Mrs. Welsh was wearing a dainty white muslin frock. Those present were: Mrs. Buckley, Mrs. Barrington, Misses Caplen (2), Moore (2), Whitcombe, Reilly (2). Good (2), Q. Glenn, White, Dingle, B. Nolan, Okey (New Plymouth), Brett. Personal. Miss Okey (New Plymouth) is the guest of Mrs. W. G. White. Mrs. Riddiford is in llawera on a farewell visit before leaving for England next month. Mrs. F. Parkinson returned this week from a holiday spent at the Southern Lakes, Wellington and Masterton. Mrs. Glenn is visiting Wellingtdn.Mr. and Miss Rgine have gone on a six weeks’ holiday to the South Island.
