December 13. i The Town Fete. With Xmas festivities so close at hand, social matters are very dull, but the arrival of the Mayor aud Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. D. Lysnar) from England on Wednesday last caused quite a stir in the town, a most enthusiastic reception being accorded them on their return home. Owing to the death of Mrs. Tiffen (Mrs. Lysnar‘s mother) the arrange, ments made for their reception were cut" tailed somewhat at the request of botH Mr. and Mrs. Lysnar, but the Tuateal was gay with bunting, flags flying, the City Band playing in a large procession to the Firebell Tower, where the Mayor was publicly welcomed, and all Gisborna was en fete. Miss W. Wootton ed, on behalf of the Cook County Wo men’s Guild, to Mrs. Lysnar a beautiful bouquet, the colours in the flowers being heliotrope and white. Mr. and Mrs. Lysnar were escorted home in a carriage drawn by four greys, the Firebell Tower being beautifully decorated, with flowers and greenery. Personal. Dr. Schumacher left on Saturday fa join the Aorangi in Auckland, being appointed ship’s doctor on that vesseL Mrs. Dormer, accompanied by her son and daughter (Miss F. Dormer and Mr, J. Dormer), arrived in Gisborne from England on Wednesday last. Mr. C. P. Davies returned from Aue& land on Wednesday.
