October 28. Musical Party. A musical party was given by Mrs W. M ood, Springfield-road, on Wednesday afternoon. Miss Ross (Gloueester-street I, gave an “At Home” on Thursday afternoon, the occasion being “Sports Day,” for her little pupils. Amongst the guests were: Sir. and Mrs. W. Fox, Professor and Mrs. Blunt, Mrs. Beadel, Mrs. Talbot, Mrs. Alfred Pratt, Dean Harper, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Reeves, Mrs. and the Misses Ross, Mrs. E. J. Ross, Mrs. Finch, Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. Beadel, Dr. and Mrs. Irving, Miss Berkeley, Mrs. Henry Acland, (Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Harper, Mrs. G. Bennett, Mrs. George Rhodes, Miss Edwards, Miss Cox, Mrs. Thompson, Miss Wilson, Mies Chapman, Dr. Lester, Mrs. Evans. Several very pretty prizes for the various races and competitions were •presented to the tiny winners.

Coming Events. During Carnival Week t9ie Joekey Club are giving their annual ball. Mrs. Boyle (Ricearton), and Mrs. J. Etudlrolme (Healey Avenue) have sent out invitations for a mask and domino dance, to be held in the Art Gallery' on November 10th. Mrs. John Deans (Ricearton) has sent out a large number of invitations lor a garden party on November Sth. A Successful Bazaar. The St. John Ambulance Bazaar now being held at the Olympia Skating Rink, is proving a great success, and the result should be a substantial sum for the funds of the local branch. In addition to the usual stalls, there are numbers of side shows, and every evening an attractive programme te given. On Wednesday evening the distinguished visitors were His Excellency the Governor, Captain Hamilton, A.D.C., Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rhodes, Mrs., Miss, and Master Boyle. Jjord Islington mentioned that that morning he had received advice of his promotion to the office of Knight of Justice ®f St. John of Jerusalem. Mr. A. E. G. Rhodes was recently elected a Knight of Grace of St. John of Jerusalem. Bridge. A Ismail bridge party was given by Mrs. Henry Wood at her residence, Avonnide, on Wednesday evening. The guests included Mrs. Borthwick, Miss Symes, Miss Watson, Mrs. Stevenson, Mrs. Beals Mrs C Reid., Miss Nedwill, Mrs. H. Acland, and Mrs. J._TurnbuH.

A Delightful Musical Party. On Monday afternoon Mrs. Gower Burns gave a delightful musical party for the filial meeting of the Shakespeare Club. The musical items were all from Shakespeare, the perform,oes including Mrs. Burns, Mrs. Haslam, Mrs. and Miss Wilding, Mrs. Witeon, Mrs. H. H. Loughnan, Miss Lucas, and Messrs. W. Day, and 1(. B. Rhodes, “Te Koraha,” Merivale. Lady Islington, with Miss StapletonCotton, Captain Shannon, and Captain Maitland, will arrive in Christchurch tomorrow. The Vice-Regal party will remain in Christchurch for the carnival festivities, and will, during that time, live at “Elmwood,” Papanui-road. Mrs Graves (Gisborne) is staying with Alias Nedwill at Lower Riccarton. Miss Brandon (Wellington) is the guest of Airs John Deans (Riccarton). Afr and Airs W. Alontgomery (Little IRirvetr), are staying with Airs J. D. Hall, at Middleton. Airs Russell Grace (Wellington) is the guest of Mrs Stead, “Strowan Park.” Airs and Miss Denniston (Peel Forest) are in (ffiristchurch. Air and Mrs George Rhodes, who have been staying for some time at "Mm•wood,” Papanui, returned to “Aleadow ißank” last week. Air and Airs Walter Stringer have returned to Christchurch from a holiday visit, to Sydney and Melbourne. Airs Wilson, wife of Dr. Wilson, chief of the scientific staff of the Antarctic expedition, and Airs Evans, wife of the captain of the Terra Nova, arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Captain Scott, the leader of the Antarctic expedition, and Mrs Scot t, will arrive in Christchurch to-morrow. Mrs Aforris (Wellington) is the guest of Mrs Curnaw, at Cambridge Terrace. Miss Paterson (Dunedin) is the guest of Airs W. Wood, wt Springfield-road. Airs Melville Jameson has returned to Timaru. Alias G orrin, who lias been in Christchurch for some time, returned to Auckland last week. Mrs Vernon (Christchurch) has returned from South Canterbury.
