September 30. A Bunce. The members of the Girls’ Whakar* tika Hockey Club gave a most enjoy a blit dance in the Brougham-street Hall lasfi Thursday evening. Afternoon Tea. The members of the New Plymouth Boys’ Club entertained a number of their lady friends at an afternoon tea last Thursday, and it was tlrought by, many of the ladies that the men should give these little functions more frequently, as they- are most enjoyable. On Friday evening the Theatre Royal was packed to witness the staging of “The Girl from Rector’s,” but keen disappointment was felt over the non-ap-pearance of Mr. Hugh Ward owing to the prevailing influenza. Miss Palotta, as usual, charmed everyone with her graceful acting and fascinating laugh. Amongst the audience I noticed: —Mrs. C. Personal. Mrs. J. Paton has returned to New Plymouth after her short but pleasant trip to Auckland. She was accompanied back by- her father, Mr. Parsons, who intends to remain permanently in New Plymouth. Miss Percy Smith, New Plymouth, has gone on a visit to Wellington. Miss J. Wilson, Eltham, is the guest of Miss D. Mills, New Plymouth. Mrs. Sydney Allen, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Newton King, New Plymouth, has returned home to Dunedin.
