DANNEVIRKE.
September 30. Music. Another successful performance of “Les Cloches” was given on Friday night to a packed house. Last year the combined choirs of Dannevirke gave a very excellent performance of the “Alessiah.” This year it has been decided to again attempt this well-known oratorio. Solo parts have not yet been allotted. The spinsters of Waitahora gave a most enjoyable dance last Friday night as a finale to the dancing season in that settlement. Sports. The annual meeting of the Tennis Club was held last week, and members are eagerly looking forward to get to work in earnest. The greens are in good order, and have been well attended during the winter season. The golf ball which was mooted last week has fallen through, the response from members not being sufficient to warrant the. project being gone on with. During the winter season the fire bribade have held several socials in aid of the funds of their bazaar, which is to take place in November. Personal. Airs. J. A. Robertson, who has been in ill-health for some time past, has returned from Napier,' where she was recouping. Iler many friends will be glad to learn that she is much improved in health. Airs. Bunny, sen., of Afasterton, has been on a visit to her son, Air. R. E. Bunny, of Dannevirke. Airs. Garlick, of Wellington, arrived in Dannevirke last week on a visit to her sister, Airs. Lawford. ...
