HASTINGS.

June 23, Amateur Theatricals. A number of amateurs, under the direction of Mr. H. S. Ribbands, produced the laughable comedy “Jane"’ in aid of the district school fund last Wednesday and Thursday. Both nights there were very fair audiences, and the piece went well from beginning to end. Mr. Ribbands deserves special mention for his untiring endeavours in bringing the performance to so successful an issue. The parts were well sustained by the following caste:—Mrs. Leonard, Misses Thompson, Hall and Darby, Messrs. Ribbands, Melhuish, Parkinson, Hanham, and Master Battcrshill. Among the audiences 1 noticed: Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Hobbs, Mrs. Gregory, Mrs. Gascoyne, Mrs. Biddle, Mrs. Scott', Mrs. Haise, Mrs. Newbigen, Misses Wellwood (3), Newbigen, Evans, Luckie. The Hunt. Hunting is in full swing. Several nasty spills have occurred of late, perhaps the most serious being that of Miss Mackersey, who received concussion, and is lying in an unconscious condition. Fortunately, hopes are entertained for her recovery. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. J. Beamish and family have returned from their holiday to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Luckie, jun., are visiting their mother in Charles-street. Mrs. Fergus.son (jun.) has returned to Dannevirke. Mrs. Banks has returned from Wellington.
