June 24. The Baby’s Ball. One of the most (successful public balls ever Held in Napier took place in the Drill Hall last night, it was given in order to obtain funds for the 1 Junket Society to equip a cottage hospital in Napier for babies who, through the ignorance or poverty of their parents, anight otherwise be neglected. The main hall was most beautifully decorated with 'bunting and greenery. The billiard-room was converted into a luxurious drawing-room, one end being screened off for bridge. The supper table wag cleverly arranged with Japanese cherry blossom. There were some give hundred people present, and many beautiful gowns were worn. Judge and Mrs Edwards are staving • t the Masonic Hotel. Mr and Miss Hartree (Ngaroto) are tn Napier for a few days.

Miss Gaisford (Dannevirke) was in town for the races.

Mr and Mrs St. Hill and Miss St. Hill and the Misses Johnson (Mototoria) are amongst the country visitors in town for the “Baby ball.” Mr and Mrs Hunter Brown and Miss Hunter Brown have returned from England, and are spending a few days in Napier before returning to their home at Wairoa.
