June 23. Dance. ■ A very enjoyable danee for the young folks was given on Thursday last by Mrs Harry Valder in the Oddfellows’ Hall. The young guests, to the number of eighty, assembled in good time, and punctually at six the grand march commenced, turning into a. polka in due time. . ’['his was followed by the Norwegian Dance, always so greatly enjoyed by the children. One could not help thinking what a pity these quaint old dances are so seldom seen. Quite a goodly number of older people came to assist the hostess in her task of entertaining the young folk. At 8 p.m. supper was served, forming a pleasant interlude, and concluding with the distribution of bon-bons, which caused a great deal of fun. Mrs Valdbr received her young guests in brown silk, with Oriental trimming, and lovely berthe of Duchesse and Brussels lace, and apricot lace scurf. Mollie Valder wore blue silk, finished with Indian lace and tiny pink rosettes; Norah Valder looked sweet in pink, white shoes with pink bows and silver buckles. Mrs Allen Bell on Wednesday last, at the Kia Ora Tea-rooms, by the committee of ' the Hamilton Horticultural Society, and that of last year. During the afternoon the President (Dr. Douglas) spoke of the ready services Mrs Bell had always rendered, in her genial manner, and*of the great assistance she had given in furthering the aims of the society. He trusted that upon her return from the Homeland they would again have the benefit of her services. On behalf of the committees, ho would ask the acceptance of a slight token of their regard, and hoped the deck chair would add to her comfort on the voyage, and serve as a reminder of them all. Mrs Bell, in a short but happy little speech, thanked her fellow-workers, and said she trusted to be able to gain many hints from larger shows of a similar kind at Home, where she intended to make notes of anything likely to he helpful, and which she would certainly lay before them upon her return. Euchre Party. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Mae Diarmid gave a most enjoyable progressive euchre party to a number of their friends in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Tuesday evening. Booth’s band played selections during the evening. The hall was prettily decorated, and the light was very nice, the lamps all covered with red silk shades, and the same on the candles on the supper table. There were twenty-two tables, Mrs. Brewer being the lucky winner of the first prize and Mrs. McLeod the winner of the second. Mr. Kemp won the first gentleman’s prize and Mr. F. Luxford the second prize. Mrs. Mae Diarmid received her guests in a handsome green glace silk gown, prettily trimmed with laee. She was assisted by her sister (Miss Graham), who wore a very prettypale pink silk evening gown; Mrs. Graham. black brocaded satin gown; Mrs. Ward looked dainty in pale pink silk; Mrs. Gillies wore a handsome Pompadour silk evening gown with touches of emerald green velvet; Mrs. W. 11. Hume, pretty black and white evening frock; Mrs. B. Hume, effective gown of white silk, handsomely trimmed with passementerie: Mrs. Brewis. crushed strawberry silk voile gown: Mrs. Hopkins. white silk evening dress; Mrs. Kemp, eream silk blouse, black silk skirt; Mrs. Bennett, black silk evening dress: Mrs. McLeod, pretty cinnamon brown glaee silk evening gown; Mrs. Mair, stylish brocaded silk evening frock; Mrs. Stevens, brown silk frock; Mrs. F. E. Smith, pretty white silk evening gown: Miss Newell, eream Empire gown; Miss Wallnutt, pale blue silk evening dress; Miss Primrose, white silk; Miss Laura Cussen, pretty pink silk evening dress; Miss M.
