February 9. A Reception. In St. Matthew’s Hall on Tuesday a reception was held to welcome the Rev. and Mrs. Biddle. The Rev. Gordon Biddle has come to Hastings to be assist-ant-priest at St. Matthew’s Church. About three hundred parishioners were present. During the reception Miss Williams (Frimley) gave several selectionson her cabinet gramophone. Three competitions were also held for prizes given by Mrs. H. Nelson and Miss Williams. Mrs. de Lisle gave a most enjoyable afternoon last Saturday to a number of her daughter's young friends. Amongst those present were: The Misses Joyce Beamish, Dorothy and Margorie MeNiven, Ruth and Gwen Nelson, Janet and Katherine Russell, Una Smith. Margorie and Eva Cooper, Eileen Lane, Flossie Hobbs, A. Cross, Dorothy and Marjorie Chambers, and H. Bennett. A variety of amusing games were played, and greatly enjoyed by those present. Mr. and Miss Luckie have returned. We are pleased to hear that Mrs. Gascoyne will soon be about again after her painful accident. Invitations are out for the wedding of Mr. E. Williams on March 2nd. Mr. J. N. Williams (Frimley), who is slightly indisposed, is taking a holiday, at Taupo. Mrs. J. Miller and Miss Peddie have returned from Wellington. Mrs. Hurley and family have returned from the Grange. Mrs. Mill (Dunedin) is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Stronach.
