October 14. The Boating Season. Perfect weather was experienced for the opening of the boating season on Saturday. The shipping at the port was gaily decorated with bunting, and the Garrison Band played during the afternoon. Several ladies and their friends served afternoon tea in the Rowing Club shed. The tables were charmingly decorated with blue and white sweet peas and streamers of blue and white ribbon, ■the club colours. Amongst those present were:—Mrs. Cock, Mrs. C. T. Fell, Mrs. de Castro, Mrs. W. Rout, Mrs. and Miss Coote, Mrs. Rogere, Mrs. Price, Mrs. Kissling (Manaia), Miss Richmond, Mrs. C. King, Mrs. Kerr, Mrs. and Miss Blundell, Miss Hornsby, Miss Hair, Misses Cock, Miss Glasgow, Mrs. P. Moore, Misses Mackay, Mrs. Blechynden, Mis. Rose, Miss Sutherland-Smith, Mrs. J. Glasgow, Mrs. Blomfield, Misses Edwards and Hamilton. Euchre Party. An enjoyable euchre party was given by Mrs. Sclanders for Miss Monroe (Palmerston North). The prizes were won by Miss Gilkieon and Miss M. Dock. Mrs. Sclanders wore a becoming costume of black lace over silk. Mrs. Kissling, pale blue taffeta with cream net; Miss Richmond, deep cream silk; Mrs. Blundell, black; Miss Sclanders, bright pink net frock; Miss Monroe, cream chiffon. Others present were: Misses Gibbs, Sealey, Cock (2), Blundell, Leggatt, Edwards, Houlker, Blackett (2), Maginnity (2), Webb, Clark, Ledger, Fell, Trolove, Booth. A very enjoyable luncheon party was given for Miss M. Glasgow by Mrs. R. Fell. Some of the guests were: Misses Bell, Booth, Blackett, Cock (2), Fell, Maginnity, Clark, Blundell, V. Leggatt, and Ledger. Afternoon Tea. A large afternoon tea was given by Miss Igglesden for Miss Lena Coster, at the “Haereinai.” Miss Igglesden wore a handsome frock of cream radium, with ■heavy lace insertion, and a blue hat. Others present were: Mrs. Coster, grey coat and skirt, black hat; Misses Coster, Mrs. King, Miss King, Mrs. de Tourettes, Miss Wright, Miss Perrin, Misses Bamford, Miss Clutten, Miss Ledger, Miss Hair. A large afternoon tea was given by Miss Houlker for Miss Mabel Glasgow. Mrs. Houlker was wearing black taffeta, the blouse of black lace and chiffon; Miss Houlker, blue glace with lace vest and undersleeves; Miss Glasgow, cream serge, large green hat. Others present were: Mr,s. D. Edwards, Miss Richmond, Mrs. Hoby, Mrs. Haggitt (Dunedin), Miss Tolmie, Mrs. R. Fell, Misses Cock, Misses Maginnity, Misses Mules-Edwards, Miss N. Jones, Mrs. J. Glasgow, Misses Richardson, Miss Ledger, Miss Leggatt, Miss G. Harley, Miss P. Fell, Misses Gibbs, Miss Sclanders, Miss Trolove. Another afternoon tea for Miss Glasgow was given by the Misses Ledger, at “Walton’s.” Miss Ledger wore a beautiful Princess gown of reseda silk striped voile, with vest and sleeves of embroidered chiffon; Miss E. Ledger, pale blue mousseline de soie; Miss Glasgow wore white cloth, hat with biscuit-coloured plumes; Misc Stuart-Forbes, black lace over white chiffon; Miss Lorrimer, mauve voile with silk stripe, black chiffon hat; Miss Kirton, black silk Empire gown, with vest and sleeves of tucked net; Miss Glasgow (New Plymouth), cream serge kilted skirt, cream silk blouse; Mrs. R. Fell, black and white check tweed, hat with black and white wings; Misses Fell, Bamford (2), Cock (2), Leggatt, Booth, Monroe (Palmerston), Wright, Langley Adams. An Enjoyable Dance. A very enjoyable dance was given by Mr. and Mrs. Coster at their residence, Cambria-street, on the occasion of the’r daughter’s marriage. Mrs. Coster wore a handsome gown of black satin charmeuse; Miss P. Coster, navy blue silk; Miss N. Coster, pale blue taffeta; Miss F. Coster, green silk Empire frock; Miss V. Coster, white chiffon de soie; Miss Ledger, black silk net over black glace; Miss Webb, pale blue silk; Miss Suther-land-Smith, graceful gown of white silk; Miss Blundell, white Empire satin frock; Miss Monroe, cream chiffon taffeta; MiAs G. Harley, white satin Empire gown; Mi.ss G. Wright, black net over glace; Messrs. Coster, Rowley, Hamilton (3), Tatton (Palmerston), Harley, Booth.

Personal. Mrs. A. P. Burnes is staying in Dunedin. Mrs. and Miss Glasgow (New Plymouth) are yisiting Nelson. Miss Muriel Webb has arrived in Nelson. Dr. Lucas has gone to Wellington. ,Mrs. F. Richmond and Miss Richmond have returned from Marlborough.
