October 14. Tennis. Last Saturday afternoon the Marlborough Lawn Tennis Club opened their courts for the coming season. Quite a number assembled for the occasion, and gome pretty dresses were worn. Mr. T. Orr (vice-president), in the absence of the president, declared the courts opened. A dainty tea was provided by the lady members. Bennett, Walker, Pentreath, and Adams. Personal. Miss F. Chaytor (“Marshlands”) has returned from visiting friends in Christchurch. Mrs. J. Bell (“Hillersden”) is visiting friends in Nelson. Mrs.. D. Strachan is visiting relations in Nelson. It is with much regret I have to record the death of Miss Maude Clare, who passed away early Monday morning at her home in Maxwell-road. Much sympathy is felt for Mrs. Clare in her sad bereavement, for where we lose a clever, cheerful and sincere friend from our midst, she loses a lovable and only daughter. — —
