HAWERA, Oct. L Successful SociaL A verv pleasant social, held under the auspices' of the Hawera Bowling Club, took place in the Foresters' Hall on Wednesday evening. The building was artistically arranged as a drawing-room by the lady members and friends of the club. In the first portion of the evening a most enjoyable programme was sub* mitted. The overture was played by Mrs. 11. Livingstone, and songs were contributed by Mrs. Fantham. Miss Barley, Miss Strack, Mr. Keen and Dr. Brown. Mr. Parrington gave a banjo solo, and Mrs McGibbon a violin solo. Afterwards a progressive euchre tournament took place, which was a great success.

PersonaL Miss Elsie Caplin has gone for a long holiday to Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne. Miss M. Moore is visiting friends in Wanganui. Mr. and Mrs. Alex. Hunter have returned from Rotorua. Miss Nolan is visiting relatives in the country. Mrs. Holder and Miss Hogan spent a few days in Wanganui last week. Mr. 'and Mrs. Kissling and family have returned to Manaia after a holiday spent in Auckland and Nelson. Mr. G. Glenn has returned from New Plymouth.
