SHIELD MATCH AT NAPIER.

NAPIER. Monday. The second game iu the first round of the Shield match was played on the Napier Club’s Green between Napier and Bluff Hill clubs. The weather was fine, mid the green was In good order. On the twenty-first bend Bluff II ill were lying one, both skips having delivered one bowl each, when Laing with his last bowl, In trying to guaid the lying shot, played a

I‘aierson, ami Bennie (skip) retained the trophies after a dose game against D. Marfarlane. Hutton. Rod well, and A. Marfarlane (skip). Until the IRth head there were rci>fnrcd ties, there being seldom more than a one point difference. Ultimately Bennie won by 21 points to 18. FROM THE EMPIRE CITY. W E LLI NG TO N, Monday. Three games for the junior pennant were played on Saturday. Newtown beat Victoria, Wellington teat Thorndon, ami Petone beat Karorl, the scores being: Newtown. 28. v. \ teturin, 17: Wellington, 17, v. Thorndon, 1G; and Petone. 3l>, v. Karorl, 17. The Newtown Club was successful in taking the FealhvrH from Petone. The game was close ami interesting throughout. Newtown won at the tli ish by a narrow margin of two points, the scores being: Newtown 23, Feloue 21.
