GISBORNE.

Dear Bee, October 21. Last Saturday a number of lady members of the GOLF CLUB assembled at the links to make a small presentation to their secretary. Aliss Matheson. The presentation consisted of a silver-mounted purse and silver-topped honey jar. Aliss Matheson has been a most energetic secretary, and has worked hard for the club, and her many friends wished to show their appreciation of her work. His Alajesty’s has been occupied every night this week. For show' week the theatre has been taken for ST. ALARY’S CHURCH BAZAAR, which is to be a monster affair, lasting five days. Bishop Lenihan lias kindly lent his miniature electric railway, and this will be exhibited. Another feature will be the fancy dancing, for which one hundred ladies have been practising. The dances and costumes are very beautiful. On Thursday afternoon the opening of the ROWING SEASON took place. A most attractive programme had been arranged, including swimming races, boat races and a cruise round the bay in the launches, but most of this had to be abandoned, as the sea was rough and the day cold. However, the Tuna, wilh the City Band aboard, steamed up the river to the boatshed, followed by a number of launches and small boats, and then there was a procession of decorated boats. After that there were boat races. Some of the boats were beautifully decorated with flowers and greenery, the two which were most admired for their artistic arrangement being manned by employees of Alessrs. Williams and Kettle’s and Alessrs Common, -Shelton & Co.’s firms. The weather has cleared up a-t last, and there seems every chance of fine wea-

ther for the show and races.
