HAMILTON.

Dear Bee, October 24. - Quite the best BALL OF THE SEASON was given by Mrs Cory Mathew, at Ijake House, on the 18th. as a farewell to Mr and Mrs Walter, who are leaving New Zealand for the Mother Country in the near future. Th? reception room was bright with flowers and evergreens, and the hall and stairway handsomely decorated. Cosy retieits were arranged in the conservatory opening off t ho ball-room, on lhe spacio.,s verandah and upstairs corridors, and everything conducive to the comfort -and enjoyment of the guests was carefully siudied. A sumptuous supper was served in the

dining room. The music provided by Bandmaster Savage whs excellent. Mi* Mathew received her guests in a charming toilette of white crepe de chine, prettily trimmed with insertion; Mrs Walter wore a handsome black satin bordered with jet, lovely old lace adorning the bodice; Airs bare, black silk relieved with palest lavender; Mrs Brewis, pretty pale blue crepe de chine veiled in white; Mrs i'arrer, becoming black mousseliae-de-soie, spray o£ pink blossoms on corsage; Airs Smith, lovely ivory silk trained gown; Mrs E. Jollie, black with lace draperies, red roses; Mrs R. Gwynne, pretty white trained frock, inlet with Maltese insertion; Mrs Sheppard, rich black satin finished with a spray of pink flowers; Mrs Douglas, black voile skirt, white tucked silk blouse; Miss 11. Graham, pink silk prettily frilled; Miss It. The bachelors of Hamilton gave a most successful dance in St. Peter’s Schoolroom, writes my Hamilton correspondent. Although the weather prevented many from turning up. Hie hall was well filled. The music was supplied by Bosworth’s Rand. Mesdames Sandes, Graham and Swarbrick acted as hostesses for the evening. Ramstead. blue frock; Miss Carey, cream; Airs R. Graham, white Bilk; Aliss Burd, pink. Mr and Mrs Holloway gavo A VERY PLEASANT PROGRESSIVE A EIiIIRE PARTY at their residence on the 21st. There wore eleven tables. Play was kept up with spirit till eleven o’clock, after which a dainty supper was served. The two first prizes, which were won by Aliss Stevens and Air Kenneth Graham, were pretty photo frames. The second prizes fell to Aliss Carrie Walluutt and Ml’ Panton. The boobies were Miss Burd and Mr T. Jolly. Mrs Holloway wore black voile; Aliss Holloway, white silk; Miss Clara Holloway, white, relieved with red; Miss O’Neill, white silk gown, trimmed with silver passementerie; Miss M.
