AUCKLAND.

Dear Bee, October 25. EVENING AT H ESELDEN ” Mrs G. W. Binney gave a most enjoyable evening at “Hese’.dcn," on the 19th instant.’ Although the weather was not too inviting there was a largo gathering of guests, who were most hospitably entertained by the hostess and her daughters. The rooms were beautifully decorated with masses of flowers. In the card rcom clusters of. wistaria and other heliotrope blossoms were used, and the effect was particularly charming. The ear'y part of the evening was devote 1 to euchre, there being some sixteen tables. About a dozen games were ployed, and there was keen competition for the pretty prizes. J Mr C. Brabant won the gentlemens first prize, a si!ver-mounted tobacco pouch, Mr Parker Upton carrying off the second, a silver-mounted letter-case. The successful ladies were Miss Marion Frat or, who was presented with a postcard album, and Miss Madge Rives second prize was an autograph book. Aliss L. Gorrie and Mr \\. Andre won the booby prizes. A d<dieious supper was served in the dining-room, where the decorations were most tasteful. Alter supper there was a short programme of enjoyable dances, Professor X\ ragge supplying execpionally good music.

Airs Hay wore a tweed Russian costume with white vest, black and cream bonnet; Mrs (nilton Hay, black canvas voile tucked and trimmed with bebe ribbon, pretty feit hat; Mrs Wallace, blown cloth costume anil black picture hai; Mis Fratcr, handsome black gown with beautiful mantle, bonnet en suite: Mrs Sh.irinau, navy blue serge cut-away coat and skirt, eream vest, pretty hat swathed in white chiffon; Mrs <‘oom white cloth costume; Miss Atkinson. navy blue gown elaborately trimmed with insertion, blue hat to mutch: Miss - — Atkinson was in a deep heliotrope cloth gown, while felt hat garlanded with violets; Miss Georgie Denniston wore a navy serge coatee and skirt, cream vest and ehie felt hat; her little sister was iu tussore silk and white hat; Miss Partridge, black flicked voile skill, pretty lloral delaine blouse, burnt siiaw hat trimmed with wreath of pink roses and fall of cream lace; Miss M. Madeline Watkins, brown frieze east lime with white vest, hat en suite: Miss Fra ter. navy bine cloth gown with facings of Oriental embroidery, hat to match: Miss Jennie Frnter. dark blue elotli tailormade gown with white vest, smart felt hat; Mrs Ernest Beale, very pretty sapphire blue cloth costume embroidered facings, white vest, blue and white hat; Miss Symes wore n navy blue skirt and pretty silk blouse of same shade, blue and white French sailor hat; her sister wore a blue skirt ar.v pretty white blouse.

Miss Constance McMillan (Sydney) is visiting Mrs. C. C. McMillan, nt “Ards trath,” Remuera.
