The eighteenth annual report congratulated atflliated associations on the good government, of the game in their respective districts, and on the increase of playing members. The association has eight associations affiliare<l to it, composed of sixtythree clubs, with a membership of 3591. The association has one voting lepresentatlve (Viscount IJorncastle) at all general meetings of the Lawn Tennis Association of England. The championship meeting held at Najfler was in every way a success, the entries- being the largest on record since the association was formed. The challenge round in the Ladies’ Singles was abolished, and the entries — I went v-three in number—beat all previous records. Tournaments approved by the association were held nt Walpawa. Pahlatua (2), Taranaki, Wellington. Canterbury, Otago. Walrarapa, Wellington (public schools), and. Napier (championship). Looking forward to the ensuing year. It was quite possible that the association might have to meet a visit, from the Messrs Doherty, which may mean extra expense, but which would he more than balanced by the “gate” they would naturally draw, therefore that might be looked upon as a profit. The total receipts for the season, including the proceeds of exhibition match and a bn lance rtf £32 15/8 brought forward from the previous season, amounted to £124 18/2. The expenditure, including the cost of the tour to New South Wales, was £99, which left a credit balance of £26. The assets amount to £77 in excess of the liabiHties which are nil. The report and balance-sheet were adopted without comment. UNLICENSED TOU RNAM ENTS. The Auckland association wrote that no rule of the New Zealand Astwiclatlon prevented a district aasocfatlou holding a t<»urnaiuent without special authority. The secretary explained that two unauthorised tournaments had been held in the Auckland district without the authority of the association. In a subsetjuent letter from Auckland it was explained that the association could not interpret rule 25 to mean that no tournament should be hold without authority, when the clubs that, organised the tournameuts were affiliated to a district association. Mr Lalshley said that It seemed a wonk point in the rules that they had not the power to deal with clul»s. The secretary explained that a olrculor hud been issued to all clubs stating that programmes of tournaments should be submitted to the New Zealand Association for approval.
