RIFLE SHOOTING.
A CAMBRIDGE MATCH. CAMBRIDGE, Monday The Waikato Mounted Rifles No. 3 Company fired a handicap match on Saturday for Mr Thomas’ medals. The weather was exceedingly bad. Private Harsant won comfortably. Appended are the scores:--Private W. Harsant, ser. (200yds), 25. (500yds). 25, (600yds), 18: total. 68; Private K. Auderson, 4, 23. 16. <?: total, 51; Private VV. Bruce, 3. 25, 18, 2: total. 48; Private J. Allen, 6, 17, 17. 5: total, 45; Corp. VV. Simpson. 4, 26, 13, 0: total. 43: Private E. Wallis. 8. 24. 14. 2: total, 43: Private B. Cubfc, 6. 17, 16. 4: total, 43; Sergeant Bruce, scr., 19. 19. 3: total, 41. A social was held in the National Hotel the same evening. Captain Walker piesiding. M ATCH AT NA PI ER, NAPIER, Monday. The Ranfuriy Rifles held n shouting match between teams headed by Captain Smith and Lleat. Garry, the result being a win for the former by 19 points. The vcmHut was very unfavourable. Capt. Smith’s team scored 556 points. Stockey 86 and Corporal Tronson 81, being the highest scorers; while Lieut. Garry’s team registered 537. Corporal Stephens 82 and JPrivate Walsh 70, occupying the leading positions. PALMERSTON GUARDS BEAT SHANNON R.C. PALMERSTON N.. Monday. A rifle match between teams representing the Shannon Rifle Club and the Palmerston North Guards was won by the latter by three points. The weather was very bad, rain fulling nearly all the time, and consequently only seven shots al 200 yards and five nt 300 yards were tired. Palmerston North registered 281 points, ami Shannon 278. Lance-Corporal Vincent (45) nnd Lieut. Murray (48) were the highest acorera for the winners; Riflemen Sherman, Hallam. and Curren (46 each) filling the corresponding positions for the losers.
