Dear Bee, May 13. The Hawke's Bay hounds met at Fairfield last Saturday. A large field was present, including Mesdaiues A’Deane, "Watson. Hassall, Harry Carlyon, Misses Inglis, Waterhouse, Russell, M. Russell. Foote, S. Skerman, Ward, Hobbs. Price. Johnson, Messrs H. Wat»on, G. Realson, W. Small. J. B. A’Deane, H. Carlyon. Lcitlioad. Price (3). R. White. Hugh White, W. McKenzie, T. Butter, etc. - •
On the same day the ladies of the Napier Golf Club played the second of
the winter competitions, when Miss Balfour. 72 —12—60, was successful. The best gross score was made by Miss Ka-a-auria 67, scratch 67. The handicapping Was very-close, ten net scores ranging from* 60 to 71. The prize on this occasion was presented by Mr J. McVay. Tfiojiext best * scores in the match were those of Mrs Antill, Mrs J. Tareha, Miss Leila Davis, Miss Linda Davis. Miss •Fannin. Miss M. Locking. Miss Davis, Mrs Jardine and Miss Newbould. A large number of people were present, and much appreciated the delicious afternoon tea given by Mrs J. T. Cato. The ladies.of the Maroro Hockey Club opened their season on Saturday, when a most interesting match took place. Amongst those taking part in it were —- Mrs West-all. Misses Todd (captain), Jardine, Goldsmith, Hill, Ncvill, Simpson. Dean. etc.
Mfs Wenley gave a children’s fancy dress dance on Tuesday evening. The costumes were charming and varied, and the scene was a pretty one. The dance was'kept" up with spirit until nearly midnight. Perhaps Miss Alison Wenley was the belle of the evening, representing a charming little Japanese girl. Mrs Wenley was handsomely dressed in nn 18th Century costume. The powdered hair and patches suited her admirably. Miss Gladys Jardine looked well as a Dutch Girl, Master Basil Jardine a Montenegro Peasant, Master Leonard Jardine made a. typical Cowboy, Miss Nina lloadley looked dainty as ’“Pierette,” Miss Marjorie Antill wag ‘■Folly,” Miss Justine Antill Samoan Girl; Miss Mollie Antill was much admired as a “Golden Butterfly”; Miss A. Morris made a sweet little “Forget-me-not,” her costume was remarkably well got up.
