Dear Bee, June 25. On Friday afternoon Mrs and Miss Alexander GAVE AN “AT HOME” at their residence in Victoria Avenue to meet Mrs and Miss Phillips (Canterbury). Mrs Alexander received her guests in a handsome black silk bengaline costume, the skirt having a long train, and the bodice draped with exquisite lace. Amongst those present were Mesdames Phillips, Barnicoat, Moore, Grieg, G. Marshall, Eyre-Kenny, Watson, Krull, H. Sarjeant, Innes, and the Misses Phillips, Barnicoat, Jackson, Krull, and others. A MOST ENJOYABLE DANCE was given by Mrs McDonnell, Wickstedstreet, on Friday, 19th, about ninety guests being present. Her large draw-ing-room and dining-room had the folding doors removed, and was used for dancing, the floor being perfect; in the spacious hall a delicious and dainty supper was laid out, the table decorations consisting of vine leaves, shaded in the most exquisite autumn tints. The verandah was completely covered in, carpeted and illuminated with Chinese lanterns, and converted into a drawingroom, with numerous easy chairs and sofas. The evening being chilly, it was an ideal night for a dance. Many pretty and effective costumes were worn. Dancing was indulged in till a late hour. The weather was perfect on Sat-ar-<Hy, June 13, for THE FOOTBALL MATCHES between representatives from Te Ante (Hawke’s Bay) and Wanganui Colleges, consequently the attendance was large. Fully 2000 persons must have been present on the Collegiate School grounds by the time the senior match commenced. In the junior match the visitors had a considerable advantage, and the game resulted in Te Aute 14 points, Collegiate School nil. The senior match was splendidly contested, the visitors scoring 11 points to Wanganui’s 8 points.
