Dear Bee. June 25. A large number of guests were entertained at an AFTERNOON “AT HOME” on Wednesday by Mrs C. H. Mills, at the Ministerial residence, Tjuakori-road. In the' dining room a very delicious tea was laid, and besides sandwiches and cakes there were fruit salads, trifles, jellies, etc., to tempt one. The table decoration was of chrysanthemums and pot plants. 'Mrs Mills received the guests in the drawing-room, and wore a handsome blaek satin gown with jet and lace on the bodice; Miss Mills wore a black skirt and- soft cream blouse with insertion; Miss C. Mills, in a cerise pink frieze skirt and silk blouse to match, trimmed with lace; Miss O. Mills had a bisonit-coloured voile skirt, and blouse to match, ami her sister in pale blue voile trimmed nvith ecru lace. During the -afternoon Miss Mills and Miss Howard fof Auckland) sang very nicely. akirt, toque with flowers; Miss Seddon, pretty royal blue voile Eton gown with strappings of light silk, blue and green hat; Miss M. Seddon had a grey striped tweed Russian costume, and a blaek hat; Mrs Quick, in black silk with lace and black and white bonnet; Miss Howard, neat blaek braided costume and hat; Mrs (Dr.) Mills; Mrs Trigham; Miss Haise, and others. THE OPERA HOUSE has been packed to the doors every night since “Sweet Nell of Old Drury” has been staged by Mr Musgrove’s Company. Everyone is simply charmed with Miss Nellie Stewart and hei- fascinating little ways. Among the many who have been in the audience are Mr and Mrs Johnston, the Misses Johnston, Mr and Mrs Pearce, Dr. and Mrs Newman. Dr. and Mrs Collins, General and Mrs Babington. Mr and Mrs and Miss Duncan, Mr and Mrs 11. Johnston, Dr. and Mrs Hislop, Mrs and Miss Simpson, Mr and Miss Coates, Miss Nelson. Mr and Mrs Firth, Mrs and the Misses Hislop, Mr and Mrs Ross, Mr and Mrs Reid, Dr. and Mrs Findlay, Mr and Mrs Young, Mrs and Mrs C. Cooper, Mr and the Misses Harcourt, Mr and Mrs A. Dunean, Dr. and Mrs Purdy, the Misses Fell. Mr and Miss Skerrett, Mrs and Miss Gore, Mr and Mrs H. Gore, Mr and Mrs Nathan, Colonel and Mrs Owen, Mr and Mrs Buchanan, Mr and Mrs Turrell, and others.

There was a large attendance at the ANNUAL CAPPING CEREMONY

in connection with the New Zealand University in the Sydney ; street Schoolroom on Wednesday afternoon. Those who were on the platform were the Rev. J. C. Andrew (vice-chancellor of the University of New Zealand). Mr J. Joynt (Registrar), Mr Seddon (Minister of Education), Mr Evans (chairman of the Victoria College Council), Sir Robert Stout, Dr. Knight. Mr T. R. Fleming, Dr. Findlay, the Hon. T. Y. Dunean, Mr J. Duthie, M.H.R., Mr C. P. Powles (Registrar of the College), and Professors Easterfield, McClaurin, Brown, MeKenzie, Kirk, and Von Zcdlitz. The

Rev. Mr Andrews spoke at some length, and others who spoke were the Rev. W. A. Evans, Mr Joynt, Mr Seddon, Professors Easterfield and Dr. Findlay. In the evening a most enjoyable entertainment was provided by the students of the Victoria College to a large audience. The programme consisted of songs, choruses, hakas, etc., and a farce, and the audience was kept well amused throughout.
