Dear Bee. May 12. The annual missionary SALE GE WORK, which was held at Mrs. HunterBrown’.! (Long Look Out) on Wednesday afternoon, was largely attended, and was a very successful function. The various stalls did a thriving business, and the financial receipts were very satisfactory to the. promoters. Amongst those present I noticed Mrs. Hunter-Brown, who looked well in a black silk dress and white cap; Mrs. Mules, black dress, black and amber bonnet; Mrs. Fell, steel-coloured costume, black hat; Mrs. Sclauders. mourning costume; Mrs. Oldham, black, mauve bonnet: Mrs. Kempthorne, grey dress,

Preshaw, light blouse, black skirt; Miss Browning, blue blouse, with white lace, black skirt; Miss Bicknell, light blouse, dark skirt; Miss Baigent; Miss Gascoigne (2). Some of the gentlemen were: His Lordship the Bishop, Revs. Kempthorne. Robison, Cawte. Messrs. Kingsley, Greenwood. Pasley. Barnett. Holloway, Pirare and many others.

On Wednesday evening Mrs. Renwick gave a delightful dance at “Sewstead.” The rooms were beautifully decorated, anti dancing was kept up until th-' small hours of the morning. Mrs. Renwick looked very’ well in a handsome black silk dress; 'Mrs. Robertson also wore black; Mrs. Lewis; Miss Renwick-Robertson liad a most lovely’ dress of pale-coloured satin, beautifully’ hand-painted with pansies; Miss Jean Rutherford (KaiIcoura) looked well In a dainty white evening dress: Miss M. Hodson (debutante), white silk dress; Miss Edwards, pink: Miss Robinson, white; Miss Kempthorne. pink; Misses Preshaw. Lee (Wellington), Douglas, Broad (Wellington), E. Ledger, Glasgow, Blackett, Harris, Tomlinson, Bunny’, Houlker. Lieutenant-Colonel Pitt, Messrs. Renwick, Lewis, Rowley, Sclanders (2y, Kempthorne, Adams,

Ilursthouse, Hamilton (2), Tomlinson. Edwards and many others. A dramatic recital and concert was given on Wednesday night at the School of Music, by Mr. W. J. Smith, from Glasgow. He was assisted by Misses Stevans. Croucher. Nock, Fraser and Chittenden, Messrs. Naylor, Richards, Aydon, Stewart, Hurst, Jones and Wimsett. There was a very good audience, and the recital was greatly enjoyed by all.

The Theatre Royal was tilled with an appreciative audience on Friday and Saturday nights, to witness the bio-tableaux entertainment, ‘’Our Navy, ' whieh was one of the finest living- pictures ever shown in Nelson. Appropriate pianoforte music was given by Mr. Hurry Rtishwortli, and a number of nautical songs were sung by Mr. A. J. Gromnnn. the mechanical effects being worked by Mr. J. Earl. Mr. L. S. Butler gave descriptive readings and recitations in a very effective manner.
