Waihi Company declared the 24th dividend this week, 2/ per share being payable on the Ist of June.

National Bank shares have firmed in price, 49/ being now offered.

Enquiry was made for Waihi Grand Junction at 10/ during the week. Although 6/8 is quoted as the buying price for Whangamata Gold Corporation shares, as high as 8/3 has been paid for a parcel. N.Z. Insurance shares changed hands, and are still in demand at 63/.

The Prospere claim, Tiki, is about to be developed by an English Company.

Four in Hands sold at 3/3 to 3/4, but were easier later on, 3/ being the best offer.

It is stated that a substantial bonus has been offered for the loan of a few thousand shares in a certain mining company this week. Evidently ‘someone has blundered.’

Northern Steam shares were wanted at slightly better prices. Inquiry was made this week for Tararu Creek shares, first at lOd and then 1/. No sales resulted. The corrected Moanataiari returns show that 17 parties treated 89 tons of quartz, and 52 lbs. of stone, for a yield of 200 ozs. 19 dwts. of gold, valued at £561 15/11. May Queen tributers treated 32J tons of ore for a yield of gold worth £l3O 10/10. The treatment of 60 tons of ore from Comer and party’s tribute block in the Cardican mine resulted in gold being won, valued at £ll9 19/7. The reef in the Alpha mine has shown great improvement latterly. Crushing commences almost immediately. Shares are still wanted at 4/8.

Corrected returns show the total output of bullion from the Waihi mine since 1890 to be worth £984,060 7/8. Of this £404,500 has been distributed as dividends.

A rise of £1 per share has taken place in Waihis, which means on the share basis an upward move of £320,000 this week. A new leader cut in the Bunker’s Hill mine has yielded gold-bearing stone. Sinking has commenced on the point below where the rich specimens were obtained.

About 301 b. of picked stone was secured recently by a man who discovered a new leader while repairing the road to Mercury Bay. When crushed the stone yielded £47. May Queen shares have had sales from 8/ to 8/6 this week. Another advance is expected now that breaking down is about to commence.

Grace Darling shares had steady buyers during the week at 1/3 to 1/4. The amount of ore actually in sight in the mine is 34,000 tons, and is estimated by manager to be worth about £2 7/ per ton. Taking the quantity from present levels at 80,000 tons, at the low estimate of 40/ per ton, and cost of treatment at 20/, it would give a very handsome return.

The damage to the Mahara Royal Company water race has been repaired, and crushing operations recommenced. Shares are wanted at 2/6.

Two tons of dirt from the Pohutu claim, Coromandel, won by tributers, yielded gold worth £22 4/1. N.Z. Talisman shares ranged in price this week from 14/6 to 14/9. A leader showing gold was cut by contractors when driving in the Puru Consolidated mine this week.

Shares in companies holding areas adjoining the Waihi mine had steady buyers during the past week. Stone of excellent quality is still coming to hand from both the rise and winze in the lode in the Maratoto mine.

Local shareholders in the N.Z. Talisman Company this week resolved: ‘That this meeting strongly recommends the London Board of Directors of the N.Z. Talisman Company not to accept the London and N.Z. Exploration Company’s offer, and at the same time expresses the appreciation of the manner in which the chairman and Board of the N.Z. Talisman Company had conserved the interest of shareholders in this matter.’

Another 181 b. of picked stone was obtained this week from the Progress Castle Rock mine, Coromandel.

The Tokatea Consols Company, Coromandel, crushed 8 tons of ore for a return of bullion worth £27 10/. The lode looks promising, and has yielded a few lbs. of picked stone.

N.Z. Crown shares were in demand this week at 14/.

Harbour View tribute parties this week crushed 2 tons and lOOlbs of picked stone for a return of gold worth £B9 3/1. Waihi shares reached £7 2/6 this week, sales being made at that figure. Buyers still offer £6 17/6. The reef formation in the Imperial mine at the low level is about four feet thick and is showing gradual improvement. Tributers in the Tokatea Consols mine, Coromandel, obtained gold worth £2B 18/6 from li tons of ore. Mt. Lyell (Tasmania) shares were in demand this week at £9 2/6, but holders wanted £9 5/.
