ROTORUA HOT SPRINGS.

The Government are to be highly commended for the steps they have taken to popularise this world-famed health resort. That the success which at first marked their efforts continues is shown by the annual increase in the numbers of tourists and invalids who come from all parts of the world to bathe in the Rotorua Springs. A representative of the ‘Otaki Mail,’ in conversation with Mr Evan Evans, of Te Horo, a resident for nearly twenty years in New Zealand, learned from Mr Evans that some time ago he, although aware of the wonderful efficacy of the Hot Springs of Rotorua, abandoned a trip which he had contemplated making there, the condition of his health then being so bad that it was considered that he would not be able to stand the journey. ‘Then you wished to take the trip for the benefit of your health?* queried the reporter. ‘Yes,’ said Mr Evans. ‘I have been troubled with chronic rheumatism for the past thirty years; but in July last I was taken ill with rheumatic sciatica. The pains commenced in the left hip joint, and soon spread right down the leg to the foot. At night the pain seemed much worse, and I felt as if I were being flayed alive, and really thought I should go mad. Owing to the excruciating torture I could obtain scarcely any sleep at night, but lay in bed moaning and crying out in agony. During the first week that I was afflicted I had to give up all idea of work, and for some time after this was hardly fit for anything. I tried several ointments, linaments and plasters, but although I fancied they did me a little temporary good, in a short time I was even worse than before. Then it was that I thought of going to Rotorua, but, as I said, I was too ill to essay the journey. It was after I had been afflicted some three weeks—which seemed an age back—that I saw a pamphlet which a friend of mine had received, and read there of a case which exactly corresponded with my own, which Dr. Williams’ pink pills had cured.
