THE KITCHENMAID AND HER VISITORS.

At the Marylebone, London, County ■Court recently, Jane Williams, a kit--chenmaid, sued Mr Henry Brice for £1 10/, a month’s wages, in lieu of notice. Plaintiff said she was dismissed without any notice whatever. Defendant said that owing to plaintiff’s disgraceful conduct he was justified in discharging her without notice. His Honor: What did she do? Defendant: Oh, had a fair old lark. Every night she had about half a •dozen visitors. Plaintiff: I didn’t. I only had four. 'There was Jim, Ted, Jack, and the bobby on the beat, who looked in to -see if everything was all right. That’s all I had, your worship. His Honor: Quite enough, I should asay. Defendant: I had my suspicions, so ■one night I paid a surprise visit. There were about ten or twelve people in the kitchen, among whom were three soldiers and one policeman. Plaintiff: No; three policemen and ■one soldier —I prefer policemen. Defendant (continuing) said that the kitchen table had been put into the area, and the company were dancing to the musical strains of a mouthorgan. Plaintiff: Two mouth-organs and a •concertina. Defendant: And that is not all, your Honor. In the scullery I found sev•eral empty bottles of my best ’6O port and the remains of several fowls; in fact, they’d been having a regular set-to. When I asked Jane for the meaning of it she said all her family had paid her a surprise visit. His Honor: You’ve evidently been having a very good time. I find against you. • Plaintiff: All servants are allowed visitors, your Honor. His Honor: Yes, that may be, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can invite half the army or the whole -of the police force.
