The long looked for HOSPITAL BAI J. came off on Thursday evening, Bth and was a brilliant success The time and labour bestowed on the decorations and arrangements by Dr. and Mrs Kenny and the working committee must have been aropty compensated by the very successful issue. The Oddfellows Hall was charmingly decorated with evergreens and quantities of artificial flowers (white and crimson), the windows hung with pretty art muslin curtains, and the stage, which was occupied by the musicians, most tastefully adorned, with a spectators’ gallery in the background. Mr Adams’ Bind was one of the leading features. Many were the remarks on the excellent music. This, with a splendid floor, on which much labour was spent, and a sumptuous supper combined to make it a ball long to be remembered. Every district in Waikato was represented, each representative wearing a badge of white silk ribbon with the name of their district in gold letters. A large supper-room and dressing-room were temporarily erected adjoining the hall, and these, too, were most artistically decorated. Nearly three hundred people were present. A great number weie in fancy dress, but the largest proportion wore evening dress. Amongst the very many dresses I noticed Miss Long (Te Awamutu). as Patch work; Miss V. Graham. America: Miss E. Walinutt. green (brocaded satin; Mrs Martyn,Hospital Nurse; Miss Wilson. Queen of Hearts; Miss Murchie (Auckland). Powder and Patches; Miss — Cronin. Sleeping Beauty; Miss Hill. Folly; Miss White (Taupiri). Queen of the Night; Miss Minnett (Auckland), black velvet evening dress, white lace bertha, powdered hair; the Misses McPherson, powder and patches ; Mrs Hume, dark silk evening dress; Mrs Browning (Tanwhare), black and pink ; Miss Pallariet, cream evening dress : Mrs Kenny, cream, mauve silk sleeves and sash; Mrs Adams, white lustre evening dress ; Miss Searanette, cream and sequin trimming.
