DUNEDIN.

Dear Bee, May 23. There is every appearance of a bad day for the Queen’s Birthday to-morrow, for it has been raining for several days. At MRS MACKENZIE’S DANCE our hostess looked charming in a lovely gown of pale pink, the skirt bordered with black velvet, the bodice trimmed with narrow straps of the velvet, and finished with a velvet belt ; Miss Backhouse wore a pretty gown of the palest green silk, with sleeves and trimmings of heliotrope, the skirt bordered with black velvet having a remarkably nice effect: another charming gown was worn by Mrs Lindo Ferguson, this was yellow silk, the skirt being bordered with three narrow ruches of white ribbon, and a long bow and ends of the ribbon coming from the bodice; Mrs Boya wore pale blue satin with white, the front being veiled in lace; Mrs Mills, a handsome green brocade ; Mrs Ogston and Mrs Hosking wore yellow and white; Miss Lulu Roberts, black trimmed with blue chiffon ; Miss Peep Gibson, a pretty dress of pale pink crepon artistically trimmed with green silk, the skirt being bordered with the green, also the bodice trimmings ; Miss E. McLaren. blue covered with coarse black net; Miss Cargill, black ; Miss Mills, a flowered delaine trimmed with white lace, and white silk sash; Miss C. Neill, a pretty dress of soft white silk, the bodice trimmed with lace, and large sleeves of green striped brocade ; Miss G. Roberts wore a floral muslin with lacc hanging over the bodice, sleeves and belt of blue velvet ; Miss Sise, white silk. This has been the only dance of the week. At AN AFTERNOON AT MRS SINCLAIR THOMSON’S, Lees-street, some nice costumes were worn. Mrs Thomson herself, had a dress of petunia cashmere, the bodice trimmed with bands of gold and dark velvet; Mrs Melland wore dark green, the yoke and sleeves to the elbow of blue veiled in black lace, large green hat, pale blue feathers; Mrs Ritchie, grey costume, little bonnet to match ; Mrs Hosking, black serge trimmed with braid, and three little capes of the same serge, black bonnet; Miss Rattray, dark green cloth, skirt and bodice edged with a narrow band of beaver, large hat with green velvet; her sister wore heliotrope trimmed with .jet; Miss Cargill, a dark tweed and large fur boa, little pink straw hat trimmed with black ; Mrs Pym, fawn with dark brown silk ; Miss A. Roberts, checked tweed with dark brown silk trimming, hat covered with natural feathers; Miss Roberts, a dark dress. The MISSES ALBU CONCERT COMPANY have been delighting everybody all the week. The young ladies have been a great success. It was expected that they would ‘ move on ’ before now, but the houses have encourged them to stay. On Monday evening they gave a popular shilling concert at the Garrison Hall, and although it was a wet night the hall was crowded. The Company had the assistance of several local musicians. Mr Gunter (piano). Miss Nina Schlotel (violin), and Mr Baeyertz (organ) all gave pleasure by their playing.
