CHRISTCHURCH.

Dear Bee, May 26. Mrs Bullock's dance at Avonside on Thursday evening was A CHARMING AFFAIR. There were only about twenty couples present, and only one married lady. The dance was given for Miss Turnbull, of Tiinaru, who is staying with Miss Bullock. The floral decorations were lovely, some exquisite chrysanthemum blooms being very noticeable. The supper was of Freeman’s best, and the music supplied by Fleming added much to the general success. Among the guests were Mr and Mrs Walcot Wood, the latter wearing her wedding gown—an exquisite confection of white brocade and velvet, the wearer looking most charming in it; the Misses Lean (two), Thomas, Stratton. Way, Hawkins, Cuff. Deamer, Hirris, Miilton, Buchanan, Wilson, Dr. Anderson, Messrs Harman, Wilson, Turrell, Clarke, H. Wood, and several others. MRS HARRY BURNE’S AFTERNOON TEA on Friday was a very pleasant reunion. Her sister. Mrs Moore, of Dunedin, was the honoured guest among the large number present, including Mesdames Denniston, I. Gibbs, A. Anderson, W. G. Cotterill, Buller, (Dr.) Jennings, Misses Turton, Heywood (Auckland), Meeson, Black and others. THE GAIETY COMPANY at the Theatre Royal has had packed houses every night. Some are very disappointed after hearing them, though it is impossible to help laughing to a ridiculous extent. Among the audiences through the week were to be seen Mr and Mrs Stead, the Hon. and Mrs E. W. Parker, Mrs and Miss Rhodes, Mr and Mrs Pitman, Mr and Mrs Mears, Mr and Mrs J. Gibbs, Mr and Mrs H. Nelson, Mr and Mrs Boyle, Mr and Mrs and Misses Cowlishaw, Mr and Mrs A. Rhodes, Mrs J. Lee, Mrs Ogle, Dr. and Mrs Guthrie, Mr and Mrs H. Rhodes, Mr and Mrs Carrick, Mrs and Miss Hales. Mr and Mrs P. Campbell. Dr. and Mrs Lomax-Smith, Mr and Mrs Burns. Mr and Mrs Gould, Mr, Mrs. and Misses Tabart, Mrs C. Clark, Mr, Mrs, and Miss Kinsejr, Mr and Mrs C. Louisson, Mr and Mrs Bickerton Fisher, Mrs Birch-Brown. Mrs Vaughan-Jones, Mr and Miss Brett (Auckland), Mr and Mrs Walcot Wood, Mr and Mrs J. Henderson, Mr, Mrs. and Miss Hawkins, Mrs J. Gresson, Mrs Rhind. Mrs and Misses Ned will, Mr and Mrs Wilding, Misses Lean, Misses Moorhouse. Mrs R. Macdonald, Misses Gould, Fairhurst, Wood, Stratton, Deamer, and numbers more.

Dolly Vale.
