MARLBOROUGH.

Dear Bee, April 29. At Mrs Alban’s and Mrs Gudgeon’s dances, of which there is sure to bean account in the GRAPHIC ‘ Topics,’ there were some frocks worn which might interest you to hear about. Mrs Allen, as usual, wore black, with white lace and pale green chiffon cap ; Mrs Gudgeon was prettily dressed in black silk and lace ; Mrs H. C. Seymour and Mrs Rutherford were also dressed in black, the apparent sombreness being brightened up with chrysanthemums. Many of the young ladies too, seemed to have taken a fancy to black attire. Miss A. P. Seymour wore black, with such lovely large pink chrysanthemums setting off the square-cut bodice ; Miss Linton also looked very nice in black satin and lace ; Miss Gretta Scott wore black grenadine and yellow flowers, and Miss A. Scott wore pink ; Miss Hassell (Timaru) wore a pretty creant figured lace over silk, which was much admired for its simplicity and perfect lit ; Miss Welford (Rangitikei) wore a lovely spotted China silk, made in the severely simple fish-tail-like fashion of the day, she looked very nice ; Miss Mellish wore a very handsome red trained dress, which suited her dark beauty admirably ; the Misses Nora and Clare Kenny wore grey frocks with quantities of white embroidery, and those, I think, are all the new dresses, though with fresh ribbons and flowers all the girls looked nice. There weie also present the Misses Speed, Seymour, Allen, Duncan, Greensill, Philpotts, and Eves. The gentlemen were Messrs Christopher, Stokes, Rutherford, Gudgeon, Duncan, Davidson, Childs, Greensill, Stoton, Welford, Scott, Fell, Howard, Philpotts, Andrews and k’pnnv.

Jean.
