Stolen, between 8 and 10 p.m., of the 3rd ultimo, from a tent in StafFord-street, Hokitika, during the absence of the owner, William Woolstan, a double case silver lever hunting watch, maker’s name unknown, No. 21,847, with german silver chain attached. No person in particular suspected.

Stolen, between 10 and 11 p m. of the 14th ultimo, from the dwelling of Julia Lynch, Hokitika, a lady’s workbox, containing one leather belt, trimmed with velvet, and one blue and white belt, with a trap buckle; 20s. in silver, a plain colonial gold ring, and a colonial gold brooch, large size, with five leaves in it, and a small nugget suspended from the brooch by a short gold chain, value about £5, Box, ring, and brooch identifiable.

Stolen, between 2 and 5 a.m., of the 9th inst., from the person of Evan Morgan, of Woodstock, while under the influence of liquor, and asleep in the Duke of York Hotel, Hokitika, a ten pound note, bank or number unknown. Not identifiable.

Stolen, between 5 and 8.30 a.m., of the 9th instant, from the person of William P. Hay, Hokitika, while sleeping in the Australasian Hotel, Hokitika, thirtyeight pounds, consisting of one £lO note, three £5 notes and thirteen £1 notes. Banks and numbers unknown. One of the £5 notes identifiable, it having a piece torn off one corner. Suspicion is attached to a man, name unknown, about 30 years old, 5 ft. 6 in. high, fair hair, whiskers and moustache, fresh complexion, regular features and stout build, dressed like a digger, he being in the room when Hay fell asleep.

Stolen, between 7 a.m. on the 4th instant and 12 noon on the sth in stant, from the dwelling of Ellen Nicholl, Revell-street, Hokitika, a small gold geneva hunting watch, gilt face, the glass and one of the hands broken, number and maker’s name unknown. A colonial guard chain with gold slide, shape of a flower set with diamonds on one side and blue enamel on both sides ; a round gold brooch enamelled blue with carbuncle in centre, a small star of diamonds over carbuncle. No one in particular suspected. AH identifiable—valued at £4O.

Stolen, from the Transit Shed, Gibson Quay, Hokitika, during the afternoon of the 15th December, 1866, an unpainted deal box, about three feet square, bound with hoop iron, addressed to Mr. Rossetti, Hokitika, containing china and glassware. The Clerk at the transit shed states that a man called and asked for Mr. Rossetti’s luggage and took away the case. No description can be given of the man.

Stolen, between 8 and 10 p.m. of the 26th ult., from StafFord-street, Hokitika, a calico tent 6 by 8, with fly 10 by 11; 2 pairs light blue blankets, 3 flannel shirts, 1 greyish colored Crimean shirt, and 3 canvas bags containing razors, towels, provisions, and sundry

other articles, the property of John Cameron. All identifiable.

Stolen, between 1 and 9 p.m. of the 24th ult., from a yard at the beach, Hokitika, the following articles : 2 tent flies, one of them discoloured from smoke, 1 blue blanket, 1 brown rug, 1 dark tweed coat, lined with red, and 1 flannel under-shirt, the property of Michael Cody. The under-described was seen to fold them up anu carry them away. A man, name unknown, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, 28 years old, light beard cut square across the chin, dressed in dark clothes and light billy-cock hat, supposed to have gone in the direction of the Arahura.

Stolen, between the evening of the 22nd and morning of the 24th ult., from the boat shed, Timaru, 1 box, containing 25 lb. sperm candles, portion of cargo recovered from wreck of schooner Prince Consort. Box identifiable from being chafed at both ends by a rope.

Stolen, during the evening of the 23rd ult., from off a clothes line at the back of the residence of J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Oxford Terrace, Christchurch, 2 single and 1 double white blankets, and 1 white counterpane, the latter much worn ; the double blanket has a piece of tape upon it, with the name Coward written thereon, and is identifiable.

Stolen, during the night of the 13th ult., from Miss J. McNair, Boss, several articles of apparel and women’s underclothing. The stolen articles have since been found in the dwelling of one William Cole, who has absconded. He is an Irishman 35 years of age, 5 ft. 10 in. high, medium build, black hair, whiskers and moustache, nose eaten away by scrofula or old cancer, which gives him a remarkably repulsive appearance; will be dressed in digger’s clothes. Cole has been in the army, and has stated that he is in receipt of a pension of 6d. per day; if this is correct before he can draw his pension, either from the paymaster or Colonial Treasurer, he (Cole) must make a declaration before a Magistrate, which may be the means of leading to his apprehension.

Stolen, between 11 and 12 a.m., from the person of Patrick O’Dea, while in the Alabama Hotel, Greymouth, a dirty chamois leather bag, containing £ll 10s. in gold. A woman named Mrs. Pox was suspected, and searched without success. She is about 30 years old, 5 ft. 6 in. high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair, and rather good looking. This case is doubtful.

Stolen, between 4 and 5 p.m., of 19th instant, from a tent between the two tramways, off Bevell-street, Hokitika, during the absence of the owner, Charles Bodgers, 2 white blankets, and 1 opossum skin rug; has a skin out of one of the corners. All identifiable.

Stolen, between 18th and 19th September last, from the dwelling of William Green, Akaroa, a silver open faced Erench watch, No. 141, single case, winds up in the face, the enamel worn off round the keyhole, engraved back, with thick glass, flattened in centre, a silver curb chain attached. Suspicion is attached to one George Edward Welsh, who is now undergoing a sentence in Lyttelton Gaol.

HIGHWAY ROBBERY ANB ASSAULT. Biciiarb Bowe, of Akaroa, reports that at 10 p.m. ot the 18th ult,, he was assaulted by a man wearing a mask, who made a stab at him with a knife, which he warded off from his body, the knife inflicting a slight wound on the wrist, and who afterwards robbed him of a silver verge watch, Erench manufacture, single case, engraved back, winds up through the face at the figure 4, the enamel round the key-hole worn thick glass, flattened in centre, “ Paris ” engraved on watch plate, maker’s name and number unknown; also, half sovereign, Sydney Mint, scratched over the face, and 2s. 6d. in silver. This case at present bears a doubtful aspect.
