H. Inter-departmental Committee on River Pollution A report on a fact-finding survey of the pollution of waters in New Zealand was completed. CINEMATOGRAPH THEATRES A. Film Censorship A total of 1,573 films of all classes, totalling 4,274,700 ft., were examined. Of this number, 85 were passed subject to excisions, 154 were passed with the recommendation that they were more suitable for adult audiences, and 28 were passed with the warning that they were not suitable for children. Four films were rejected outright in the first instance. Appeals were lodged against rejection in the case of 3 films, but disallowed by the Board of Appeal. These included 1 film rejected after 31st March, 1949. An appeal was also lodged against certain eliminations ordered, but was subsequently withdrawn, and the excisions were then made.
