REPORTS.

No. 98. —Petition of J. Hayes and 1,142 Others, and 16 Petitions of a Similar Nature, as per Schedule attached. Praying for the repeal of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Act, 1933. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petitions should be referred to the Government for consideration. The Committee, however, is of opinion that amendments to the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Act, 1933, are necessary, and suggests that the Milk Council should consist of not more than six members — two representing the Auckland City, to be elected by municipal voters ; two representing suburban local bodies, to be elected by municipal voters ; and two representing the producers, to be elected by vote of suppliers.

Schedule.

17th August 1934.

Auckland Meteopolitan Milk Act Repeal Bill. I have the honour to report that the Industries and Commerce Committee has carefully considered the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Act Repeal Bill, and recommends that the Bill be not allowed to proceed. 23rd August, 1934.

No. 260, 1933. —Petition of J. B. Moor and 80 Others, of Christchurch. Praying for legislation to regulate the condition and methods of working in connection with carriers. I have the honour to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 25th September, 1934.

No. 7. —Petition of S. H. Jansen and 4 Otheis, of 40 Stanley Street, Berhampore, and 60 Petitions of a Similar Nature, as per Schedule attached. Praying that action be taken under the Board of Trade Act, 1919, to establish fair trading conditions in the retail bread trade, protecting both the consumer and manufacturer of bread. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. The Committee is of the opinion, however, that the sale of bread on consignment is an undesirable practice, and recommends an investigation into its operation by the Industries and Commerce Department,
