In compliance with section 22 of the New Zealand University Amendment Act, 1926, the Senate makes the following report to the Hon. the Minister of Education of the proceedings of the University since the date of the last report. The Academic Board having, with the consent of the Vice-Chancellor, decided to hold its meeting in February, 1930, the Senate held its annual meeting in May, 1930, and thereat made or amended statutes in accordance with recommendations of the Academic Board and the Entrance Board. Among these were the following : — (1) Amendment of the prescriptions of several subjects of the Entrance (formerly the Matriculation) Examination. (2) Changes in the regulations governing the award and tenure of University bursaries, the Education Department having been consulted in connection therewith. (3) Modifications in the course for the Degree of Bachelor of Architecture on recommendations that had received the approval of practising architects. (4) Regrouping of subjects in the course for the Degree of Bachelor of Engineering, whereby are provided Degrees of B.E. Electrical-Mechanical and B.E. Electrical-Civil. The changes are in conformity with recent developments in the profession. Empowered by section 3 of the New Zealand University Amendment Act, 1928, the Senate at its annual meeting approved of the establishment of a Chair of Agriculture and a Chair of Agricultural Botany in the Canterbury Agricultural College. At its November meeting the Senate unanimously endorsed the statement in the Chancellor's address expressing appreciation of the action of the Government and the Minister of Education in restoring the statutory grant to the University in place of an annual appropriation.
