No. 405, Session ll.—Petition of R. H. Teavbrs and 18 Others, of Pungarehu. Petitioners pray for the work on the Pungarehu Road to be proceeded with. I am directed to report that, in view of the report from the Department, the Committee is of opinion that the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 12th October, 1906.

No. 304, Session ll.—Petition of J. Wotherspoon and 24 Others, of Whangaripo. Petitioners pray for a grant to be used in constructing a road from the Pakiri Parish to the Whangaripo Creamery. Sneddon, of Waverley. (No. 2.) Petitioner prays for further remuneration for services rendered as overseer in the Public Works Department. I am directed to report that the Committee, having reconsidered the petition, has no further recommendation to make. 12th October, 1906. No. 106, Session ll.—Petition of William Patrick, of Okarito. Petitioner prays for a refund of stamp duty paid on estate. I am directed to report that, in view of the decision of Mr. Justice Williams in the case of C. M. A. Stewart (vide Gazette Law Reports, Vol. vi, 1903, p. 227), which is on all-fours with the case under consideration, and as the time has expired within which the Commissioner could legally comply with the request made for the refund of the stamp duty paid, the Committee is of opinion that a sufficient sum should be placed on the estimates by the Government, and paid to the trustee of the estate, to recoup him for his loss in the matter. 12th October, 1906. No. 645, Session ll.—Petition of D. J. O'Carroll and 25 Others, of Maungakaramea. Petitioners pray for a grant of ,£SOO for lnetalling the Whangarei-Maungakaramea Road at the worst portions.
