No. 231, 1898.—Petition of Mauhana Tura and 79 Others. Petitioners object to the decree of the Native Appellate Court, which vests Mangapoike A Block in James Carroll, Wi Pere, and Haeuga, and pray for inquiry. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 25th August, 1899. —

No. 248, 1898.—Petition of Wepiha te Wainohu and 98 Others. Petitioners complain that the persons named in the Crown grant for the Waihua Nos. 1 and 3 Blocks, Wairoa, Hawke's Bay District, who are merely trustees for the rightful owners, have leased the land for a lengthy period at a rental far below the correct value, also that the individual interests as determined by the Native Land Court are wrong. They pray for readjustment. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 25th August, 1899.

No. 70, 1898.—Petition of Timi Waata Eimini. Petitioner alleges that a portion of the Pukehina Block has been wrongfully included in a Government purchase adjoining, and prays for restitution. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition be referred to the Government for the purpose of having legislation introduced to give effect to the prayer of the petitioner. 29th August, 1899.

Petitioner prays that certain applications to have the Taoroa, Makarika, Te Ahi-a-te-Atua, and Orua Blocks, Poverty Bay district, brought before Validation Court may not be allowed to proceed. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 29th August, 1899.
