I have the honour to submit the following report on railway works executed and in progress throughout the colony during the year ending 31st March, 1887 : — Abstract. The following statement shows the expenditure and liabilities on Government railways in New Zealand up to the 31st March, 1887 : —
Including certain lines purchased by Government from private companies, a total length of 106 miles 67 chains has been opened during the year—s9 miles in the North Island, and 47 miles 67 chains in the Middle Island. The sections making up these lengths are as follows :—
