DEPARTMENT OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

(a) This represents a contribution of £l,OOO sterling to the funds of the International Red Cross Committee for the current year in addition to £5OO sterling which was paid for the second half of last year but did not come to charge in New Zealand until the 1947-48 financial year. (b) Australia and New Zealand shared the expenses of the conference held in Canberra during JanuaryFebruary, 1947, for the purpose of establishing a Regional Commission in the South Pacific. (c) The amount of £l7O included in the main estimates represented a subsidy to the publication ' : World Affairs " for last year. The present grant is a contribution towards the expenses of the Association during the current year.

(б) As the authority controlling the International Airport in Fiji, the New Zealand Government is responsible, in the first instance, for all expenditure on the airport for housing, furniture for staff, &e. This expenditure is chargeable to a " pool account," of which the New Zealand Government bears 33| per cent. The balance will be recoverable.
