REPORTS.

No. 7. —Petition of J. A. Beer and Another, of Invercargill. Praying that their child be discharged from the mental hospital and returned to them. I have the honour to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for inquiry and consideration. 13th September, 1939.

New Zealand Federation of Funeral Directors Bill. I have the honour to report that the Public Health Committee has carefully considered the New Zealand Federation of Funeral Directors Bill, and recommends that it be not allowed to proceed. In the opinion of the Committee, the Government should investigate the advisability of the questions of registration raised in the Bill. 13th September, 1939. D. G. McMillan, Chairman.

Nurses and Midwives Registration Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Public Health Committee has carefully considered the Nurses and Midwives Registration Amendment Bill, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed without amendment. 19th September, 1939. Pharmacy Bill (No. 2). I have the honour to report that the Public Health Committee has carefully considered the Pharmacy Bill (No. 2), and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendments shown in a copy of the Bill attached hereto. 27th September, 1939.

No. 57. —Petition of Te Ropiha Hawete, of Opoutere. Praying that a venue be granted to permit an investigation of his complaint of negligence in an operation on his son. I have the honour to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 6th October, 1939.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Public Health Committee desires to express its appreciation of the services rendered by Dr. McMillan in his capacity as Chairman of the Committee, and directs that this resolution be reported to the House. 6th October, 1939. Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Public Health Committee desires to record its satisfaction with the manner in which the Clerk, Mr. L. C. Dawe, has performed his duties, and directs that this resolution be reported to the House. 6th October, 1939. D. G. McMillan, Chairman.

Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Public Health Committee, consisting of ten members, has during the current session held seven meetings, with an average attendance at each meeting of six members. The Committee had referred to it two petitions and the following three Bills, New Zealand Federation of Funeral Directors Bill, Nurses and Midwives Registration Amendment Bill, and Pharmacy Bill No. (2), all of which were reported on to the House. 6th October, 1939.
